England’s sewage scandal hinges on lack of water industry regulation – new docudrama reveals how profit drives pollution
The water industry has been left to police its own pollution.
“Dirty Business illustrates how corporate greed and the fundamental lack of governance and regulatory oversight across the nation’s water industry allowed this sewage crisis to happen – at the cost of environmental and human health, and our future water security”

That's the power of TV drama's storytelling, realised by actors, compared with a piece of writing in Private Eye or a broadsheet. I'm not having a go at the latter at all, but a greater number of people will more easily watch a TV drama than read an article, or listen to a radio news report.

Ash Smith, the campaigner behind Channel 4's Dirty Business docu-drama, tells the government - get a grip!
Private profiteers can't be trusted any longer with our water - it needs to be in public hands, starting with Thames Water.

Dirty Business on C4 was absolutely brilliant and fucking terrifying. It’s imperative we re-nationalise our water companies otherwise the greedy bastards will kill us all.

I've forwarded a radical proposal not too far from this. The BoG is the long-term problem in how it is such a political football...

I've just done this. If you care about Public Service Broadcasting/Media in the slightest, you should respond & give your opinions about how to make a *better BBC* & build on what is good already. It was about a 45 minute task for myself, maybe a bit more than it would take most (!).

3: Daniel Avery TREMOR (MIDNIGHT VERSIONS)
Alternate versions of 2025 album from London-via-Bournemouth electronic artist, very much evokes early 1990s sounds (house, jungle, DnB). It feels a bit long overall to me, though 'Tremor' & 'Disturb Me' with Yeule are definite highlights.

Why *would* there be enthusiasm in the UK for attacking iran under obviously false pretences? It seems a weird thing to simply assume there’s a big constituency for.

2: Cobrah TORN
Gothenburg synthpop, feels too cold & routine & does not do anything interesting with the mean girl sensibility. A track is, aptly, called 'Unoriginal': honesty, at least! But I'm not really going to return to this like the truly unique creations of SOPHIE, Charli XCX or A. G. Cook.

The House of Lords Digital & Communications Committee just published their report on AI, copyright & the creative industries, and their conclusions could not be clearer.

They destroy the argument that big tech should be given the country’s creative output for free, and they lay out the case for maintaining and even strengthening existing copyright law to protect creatives from exploitation.

2026 albums (Fri 6 March releases) thread:
1: Aaron Hibell SYNCHRONICITY
Leicestershire dance w/ cinematic aspirations. Like transnational trance of the late 90s; no bad thing, if not that original. I liked the first two tracks - Dylan Thomas lines reminded me of their use in The Assembly (BBC/ITV).

As I never tire of quoting: Matthew 25:35
Taking in refugees is the Christian thing to do, and anyone telling you otherwise is not a Christian no matter how many crosses they wave about or wear.

More than half of Reform UK members believe non-white British citizens born abroad should be deported or encouraged to leave.
No different to the old BNP or National Front voters.
Very obviously but if you said this ten years ago, you got wall-to-wall screaming and finger-pointing for being divisive, insulting, ideologically purist and tribalistic. But it was plainly horrible National Front stuff then, just as it is now.

And yet the Tories and Reform would like us to unquestioningly support this dangerous chaos. Especially if it means they can score a few cheap points against the government. They don't have a care in their heads for British people's safety and security.

An illustrative piece in that it says the quiet part out loud: When you ask *who* is "wrongly" included in the autism spectrum, the response is almost always "women".
In other fields, this phenomenon of women being immediately dismissed, overlooked and underdiagnosed is called medical misogyny.

Bound to be a lot of discussion today off the back of Uta Frith questioning whether the autism spectrum has become too broad
As someone who would surely be in the second "hypersensitive" (although I'm actually pretty hypo-sensitive!) group, I have some thoughts..

It's now an annual ritual for me. Waiting for the ALCS statement to see what I've earned in secondary and residual royalties from photocopies, libraries, etc.
Lowest amount: £18. Largest amount: £1900.
If you've got stuff published in the UK and aren't a member of ALCS, you're a chump.
