This short novel reminded us that stories can bear witness to history that official records fail to recognize. Faced with warped media & state-sponsored biases & denial of apartheid & genocide, it’s crucial we take time to read stories that grant us an embodied perspective of life under occupation.

We also spoke about map-making and place names, voiceless witnesses, ambiguity around the narrator’s identity, the challenges of translation, and our duty to be ‘good ancestors’, among a number of other complex threads.

The discussion at the third session of the Alareer Book Club at Housmans bookshop was so invigorating that we forgot to take photos until the last possible moment!!Thanks very much to everyone who joined us (pictured or otherwise), it was brilliant to see a room brimming with new and familiar faces.

I can’t get over the volume of hatred for Greta Thunberg. Obviously any woman with an opinion gets an absolute rinsing but the insane, murderous psychotic rage she induces in - for some reason - billionaires boggles the mind.

We will be joined by speakers from different campaign groups including Campaign Against Arms Trade, Money Rebellion, KIN Coop, London Mining Network, Islington Banks Better and Green and Independent councillors.
