“You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friend’s nose.” ← another rule that turns out not to apply to Republicans.

I approve.

I did not share the original story because my gut was that the sourcing was dubious. Someone who knows more about the sole source confirms that skepticism. Don't fall for clickbait, read the piece linked below.

(If the story is confirmed by other outlets, that's another thing. But ... it's not)

well Boston has never taken a stand over government regulation of caffeinated beverages before, so I imagine this will go down easy

BTW I am well aware that Judaism has theology about covenants, but this weird-ass shit is purely Christianity’s fault.

In Christian theology, there have been covenants - promises by God - to humanity.

But the book of Revelation is not one of them.

This, and ALSO what makes him believe that his authoritarian, hierarchical God is at humanity’s beck and call? That’s there’s anything that humanity could do to *force* such a being to do literally anything?

That’s not how hierarchy works. We are not the boss of deities.

Although this joke was not a pun, a pun is an example of a joke that someone can miss for other reasons than insider knowledge.

Furthermore, in-jokes, like breathing, are behaviors that people of all sides use, not a tribal marker.

40 years ago, I yearned to find love, find a satisfying job, find friends, travel, and do a lot of cycling.

I have fulfilled these dreams, and no one has been genocided even once by my doing so.

Yearn for wholeness and dream of joy, not like this guy.

Risk-based testing falls over when you can’t measure probability of error because the coding methodology is profoundly different.

Used to work in IT for a bank, can confirm.

The late twentieth century broke junior bank management’s brains, and now they’re senior management.

Everyone assumes there are grownups somewhere in the room, but why would banks be different than, say, government?

still can't get over how one of the neatest tricks of writing is writing the wrong thing and thinking "this is wrong" and fixing it to the right thing, but never really being able to write the "right" thing first

Came across the phrase "cognitive DDOS" to describe our present culture.

Understood instantly what it meant.

What I meant by that comment is that the Threads people didn't hear you using American as a byword, but I did.

Yeah, that would not have gone well.

It has indeed been distressing.
Some of the reporting makes me wonder how much of this was set up - the live mic near him, for example.

The back of the bus line is clever, but it's rarely wise to use loaded language from another culture. Particularly when you're expressing animus at the same time.
