Craig Callender, the unreformable Humean, reviews Loewer’s book with lots of cooking and home improvement metaphors. Both delightful and informative #philsci #philsky

Oh Matt, reading this was unexpectedly moving. I actually remember this material in his grad seminar on learning (2001?!). Thank you for writing this! You are absolutely right on the value of Paul’s conceptual resources today.

At my college. An old fellow passed away and left his collection of ancient leatherbound volumes, lots of Hume. I stood over them for a while inhaling the smell...
Lucky you! I can’t think of a better way to spend time than this

I recently added an entry on the @eenphilsci.bsky.social blog: a bit of my story from early international experiences to my current work on coherence and reasoning, and what it’s like building philosophy of science here in Central & Eastern Europe.

We conceived this series to put into words the experience of #philsci researchers from Eastern n Central Europe. There are 2 entries from @boruttrpin.bsky.social and @danielkostic.bsky.social Thanks to both! These are stories of success and resilience, but read about the darker sides too and learn.
Mental health has several disciplinary homes. Yet members from different homes seldom meet. With Johanna, we decided to make these meetings more frequent at Cambridge with the Bridging Mental Health Network. Room has been brimming at our two talks

A useful thought, Brian. There is a tradeoff b/w building a support system for publishing (what Kareem is trying to do) and pushing boundaries in journals. But ultimately such a list is like answering a q from a grad student 'where should I send this paper?'. 'Anywhere' is rarely a helpful reply.
Definitely. And the JEM
Kareem Khalifa is assembling a list of journals that either specialise or regularly publish work in philosophy of social science. A great service but I need this list to be longer! Please add to it #philsci #philsky

Looking forward to studying this. Not the central point of the article but I am startled by the first sentence "The purpose of scientific research is to generate generalizable knowledge". If this is true, science should not study the Big Bang, the extinction of dinosaurs, and other one off events.
Wow this hits the spot. Thank you
