Hmmm, yeah. Security culture practices still need be applied with any online service. And some services are safer than others. Like better to go with the people trying to protect privacy than the ones cheerily facilitating fascism. The situation still sucks though.
I think that’s mean and comes from a similar place as the behaviour the OP is trying to name. I do think it is naive to believe any service is 100% secure, we cannot fully evade surveillance. However there are things we can do that are better and good for people for learning and trying.
It still seems to me that ProtonMail is a decent option. They operate within legal constraints that I’m not sure can be evaded. All online tools will carry risks with them, no?
I mean, I’m curious about this. ProtonMail is a company that explicitly says it operates within the Swedish legal system, which they did in this instance. They also allow people to make payments for their services through anonymous means. What did people expect this company to do in this situation?
