About to throw out the 14 notebooks I've gone through in my 8+ years as Tairāwhiti Museum Director and feeling a bit emotional

Stunning evening quite far south yesterday! I'm moving from Tairāwhiti to Murihiku soon - any Southlanders on here? All local intel and connections very much welcomed :)

Loving this, classic Hawke's Bay vibes, including 'Brent from Auckland'. I hope you get to Tairāwhiti for this series :)

In Gizzy, there's the museum of course, lots of nice walks along beach & board walk and rivers, great views from Titirangi (Kaiti hill). Favourite spots are is The Dome for movies and food; Sunshine Brewery, Smash Palace, cafe fav is Puku Ora.

My favourite vineyard is Matawhero matawhero.co.nz. Lovely outdoor area, platters and wine tasting but we have a few good vineyard options if that is your thing!

Nearby is Tatapouri Bay, you can camp there and they have a beachside cafe, live music and beach yoga etc in summer. Lovely spot. tatapouri.co.nz

In no particular order - Te Tapuwae o Rongokako Marine Reserve
g.co/kgs/c2HDAh is an awesome spot to picnic, snorkel or just laze in rock pools in the summer. At www.divetatapouri.com you can spend time with stingrays, it's more pricey but amazing & unique experience

Some photos in our new exhibition Up the Coast you might like. Punt over the river in Tolaga Bay, 1916 (the bridge had subsided in a flood) & the Tapuwae causeway on the Coast Road (which was mostly on the beach) near Pouawa.

Kia ora Michael, nice to connect and thanks for sharing that story. I always love hearing about those moments and stories that spark an interest in history.
