more than a couple. BD was also worried AA migh take a contested island when they took Maungdaw and deploy ships. more significantly in april 2025 aa soldiers crossed into BD to celebrate the new year with locals in the hill travts which understandably got concerns
Well Bangladesh isn't exactly friends of the Rohingya either. I think there's more of a concern that AA poses security risk to Bangladesh than sympathy there. And yeah AA may take Kyaukphyu but they already effectively control the chinese port by controlling the line/any reason to be using it
I'd be interested and surprised if Bangladesh or India intervene, though not too surprised. I'm just not sure what they'd be able to do short of directly getting involved in the war. I don't know if Bangladesh has the ability to fund proxies effectively even if they wanted to escalate that front.
I'm not sure how much leverage that China has over Arakan Army now that they have used their political capital up against AA's allies and AA controls significant parts of their pipeline. I think if anything they'd be more interested in Kyaukphyu remaining friendly.
Map updated to 3/6: Massive progress towards Sittwe across trenches, though hard to see on map. Banmauk and Hpasawng are however setbacks for the resistance as junta counteroffensives in Karenni make singificant progress.

Map update for January- not many changes, some progress and setbacks on various smaller fronts. Most of the news this past month have been on the sham election, continued battles and cross-border conflict with Rohingya militias that didn't change territorial control
Battle in Htigyaing is back
If you're wondering "Hey what's that Bo Naga BNRA Bamar EAO up to even besides facebook posting" the answer is killing elephants apparently
Always appreciate a nice map- this one from AFP/Barrons reporting on violence during the period of the junta's sham elections. It's a good reminder that many smaller incidents don't get news articles to be reported on as war is still omnipresent in Myanmar
On 10 January, the Warazein Battalion of the Federal Army claimed an attack on a road checkpoint in southeastern Naypyidaw Territory close to the airport

I dislike how media has been covering the KTLA declaration of independence as if KTLA/KNA/Karen BGF have only now suddenly broken away from the KNU or the revolution at large.
