Iβm so sorry to hear this. Much love.

Definitely time to start hunting. Thanks!
Wow.
I never even knew that existed!
Yup, me too. And the series that had that lovely Rian Hughes artwork - Tales From Beyond Science or something?
No bullshit, Ultimates 23 is going to go down as one of the most beautiful Thor issues of all time. Get yourself a copy, even if you're not reading the book, even if you hate my work.
It's magnificent, operatic, and epic in the classical sense. A brutal mythology on the page.
8 panel comic p1: Imagine the most non-descript middle aged white fella you can. Even that isn't as vanilla as this guy. Your eyes look at him, and then immediately slide off, like he isn't even there. A title above him --all lower case-- reads "the wednesday man" P2: Same POV (we see him from the chest up), as he raises his right hand in greeting and says "hi there, folks. I'm the Wednesday Man." P3: He continues "As the name suggests, I'm a middling kinda guy..." P4: He folds his arms as he says "none of the oppresive lows of Mondays... none of the dizzying highs of Fridays" P5: An extreme --and way too detailed-- closeup of his open mouth. "Just sorta... there." P6: Another closeup of WM, looking very intense indeed. "The fulcrum point between those highs & lows" P7: We cut to a a side-on view of a desert scene, as a tumbleweed bounces through from left to right P8: Back to the chest up view of WM, as he holds a comic with a smile on his face. He leaves us with "anyways, have a nice Wednesday, all, and go buy some comics."
This - after a public consultation that came down c95% against corporate copyright theft - is a hearty move towards this governmentβs spineless purchased representatives needing to be hoofed in the crotch by us all, in a big queue until they get the message.
Just back from a dog walk myself - my reactive and, to be honest, bit of an arsehole of a dog, got accosted by two off-lead dogs in the nature reserve near me. Just by the big βall dogs on leadsβ sign.
Plus added Roy Scheider which is never a bad thing.
Itβs absolutely amazing. Iβm also fond of the sequel, which is much more straight ahead, but still a pretty good couple of hours.
My cat, Jeffy, gazing with awe and wonder at the Monolith from β2001: A Space Odysseyβ
Gigantic evolutionary step currently underway.
All These Worlds Are Yours Except That Warm Spot At The Top Of The Stairs. Attempt No Landing There.
Thatβs really interesting.
I think over here they were seen as the alternative to US trends (Scream, I Know What You Didβ¦) which - maybe - had a primary audience of teenagers too?
But J-horror definitely seen as cool.
Iβd be very interested to hear what Japanese (or non-UK) people would have as their examples - how much was based on what made it to shelves in β99 over here, during that sweet spot?
Putting my retailer hat on, it was Ringu that βbroke throughβ (even getting a review in the NME of all places) and then a rush to find others that could be racked alongside it on the shelves. Labels like Tartan Asia.
Been quite a nice day so far, hasnβt it?
Given Iβm no expert, the ones that cut through to me would be - Ringu, Ju-On, Dark Water, The Eye, Tale Of Two Sisters maybe?
Good for you.
Iβm just about able to do something like a βrunβ rather than βpolite fast walk for departing busβ and, holy shit, it feels good to have that milestone. Been a long time coming.
Invite guests. Thatβs the only thing that motivates me to get the hammer and nails out.
A stone in the ground with the words βWTF 1620β carved into it.
When you think itβs home time but thereβs still 40 minutes to go.
5 panel comic P1: Title. "HOW TO DRAW A HORSE" P2: "SKETCH A SHAPE LIKE THIS" Beneath, we see a pencil sketch of a kinda squooshed rectangtangtangtangtangle P3: "TURN IT INTO A HEAD" The shape is now a horse head. This shape, it gives head. P4: "NOW, COMPLETE THAT HORSE!" We dolly back to see the glorious complete abomination. The head simply has four legs jutting out of it. P5: A wide panel, showing the crime against creation frolicking through a field. A blue sky filled with fluffy pink clouds fills the background. On the top left, a single word "congratulation"
Horses. Up there with bicycles as the bane of many an artist.
However, I figured out a foolproof way of drawing them, and I want to share that with you! π
Arenβt there less films on Netflix than were held in an average Blockbuster?
They sent a βtop 10 trendingβ email and fucking Norbit was at 7!
But I take the point. βChoiceβ over curation. See also Spotify and why kids have the Foo Fighters as their favourite band.
Thanks for posting. Had no idea this was coming.
Had a very pleasant afternoon leafing through this book at a palβs place, and was eager to get my hands on more of his work.

A big black stupid dogβs face, with teefs on show.
This idiot was ill. Couldnβt keep her food down.
However, after pulling string out of her arse in the same way a wizard pulls flags out of his sleeve, she seems to have perked up. How about that?
