Am selben Tag - gestern - an dem wir "Spotlight" zeigen. Einen Oscar-prämierten Film über die wichtige Rolle, die eine unabhängige Presse in demokratischen Gesellschaften spielt. Meinen Einführungsvortrag zu diesem Film habe ich auf LinkedIn veröffentlicht:

Als ich vor einigen Monaten gemeinsam mit den Verantwortlichen des Dresdner "Kinos im Kasten" die Termine für die nächsten Filmvorführungen festlegte, konnte ich nicht ahnen, dass ausgerechnet am 4. Februar die Washington Post Massenentlassungen ankündigen würde.
Es geht um Verbrechen, und darum, wie Institutionen und die Menschen in ihnen dazu beitragen, dass Verbrechen immer weiter geschehen können. Ein unverändert relevantes und psychologisch hochinteressantes Thema. Der Eintritt ist frei.

Der Oscar-prämierte Film beruht auf wahren Gegebenheiten: den Recherchen des Investigativteams des Boston Globe zu sexuellen Kindesmissbräuchen in der Katholischen Kirche.
Morgen Abend (4. Februar) um 19:30 Uhr stelle ich im Dresdner Kino im Kasten den nächsten Film in unserer Filmreihe zum Thema "Integrität" vor. Diesmal zeigen wir "Spotlight" (2015, R: Tom McCarthy).
Diese Befassung dürfen dann andere übernehmen.
Wer so agiert, der trägt selbst dazu bei, die Wissenschaft zu diskreditieren und zu delegitimieren. Also: Bitte endlich mal hingucken. Auch wenn's wehtut.
Gewisse Individuen und Institutionen bejubeln einfach immer weiter beharrlich den Wissenschaftsbetrieb, sind sich aber für eine Befassung mit dessen teils gravierenden Systemfehlern und dem geradezu grotesken Fehlverhalten mancher Akteure darin offenbar zu fein.
Die Erkenntnis ist sicher nicht neu, darf aber gerne noch ein bisschen mehr in die Breite getragen werden: Der Wissenschaft dient man vor allem langfristig nicht primär durch PR.

I recently discovered @forbetterscience.bsky.social. Follow Leonid for fearless posts about (alleged) cases of harassment in academia. The most recent one: it seems 44 professors wrote an internal letter demanding "protection" for one of their peers, whom several people had accused of harassment.

Public Talk: Introduction to Investigative Journalism
On December 12th (Friday), we will have the honor of hosting Mr Nico Schmidt. Mr Schmidt works as an investigative journalist and will share his experiences with, and his perspective on, this type of professional activity.
The next important step on this journey will be to develop clearer theoretical ideas of the individual descriptor properties, and of the ways in which they are functionally related to one another. Exciting, but challenging. We're working on it...
Despite their (current) shortcomings, LLM-based ratings of descriptor properties may soon help us overcome this grave limitation because *any set of items* (e.g., from an already published study) may be easily assessed this way, a posteriori.
However, to this day, most psychometric research still ignores them, making data analyses a lot less informative than they could be.
