ππΌ Happy Mardi Gras!
ππΌ Happy Mardi Gras!
Itβs always the day before Lent starts (Fat Tuesday, aka Shrove Tuesday)
Lent starts on Ash Wednesday, 40 days before Easter
Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox
β¦I canβt imagine why people canβt keep it straight. Itβs so simple! /s π

Awesome!
A group of Mardi gras parade watchers with one saying let's fucking go nice job muses, with fuck ice in red
Beautiful #nolasky #muses
I'm not joking when I say that a part of me thinks Mardi Gras parades in NOLA is humanity at its best
We're all celebrating and laughing and rejoicing together. And people are eating and drinking, and offering things up to each other for free just to make sure that everyone feels included
YES
Thereβs nothing like it and people who havenβt experienced it just donβt get it (and get sick of my gushing about it)
And with a joint email addy. Nothing says βtrusting, loving marriageβ like joint email/fb/etc!
Breaking news: On Top & Well Hung is on a bit of a hiatus. There was no way Iβd have had it up & running this Mardi Gras anyway, & then I hit a big snag. And then SAD hit me in the face. So Iβm knitting a lot instead (thatβs me β¬οΈ). Finnish knee socks.
Maybe Iβll knit the thing π€ Might actually work
βCapitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone.β
~ John Maynard Keynes: Smart Guy
Can you imagine if a democrat had shot Charlie Kirk on video then they whisked him away with no charges and destroyed evidence?
Demoβs the fun part! Well, and the new kitchen at the end.
Digital graphic honoring Black History Month featuring a sepia-toned photo of a Black person holding a phone, their face obscured, with a powerful James Baldwin quote in bold white text across the center: βWe can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist.β The quote stands out as a declaration of Black humanity and resistance to oppression, framed by the muted, historic-feeling background and the small βRemarkable Booksβ logo in the upper left corner, evoking both remembrance of past struggles and a call to honor Black lives today.
In the spirit of Black History Month, James Baldwinβs words cut through the noise: We can disagree and still loveβunless your stance denies my humanity.
Letβs honor Black voices that demand truth, justice, and unapologetic existence.

Marimar Martinez is a hero.
She was shot 5 times by ICE.
The agent told her to βdo something b*tchβ before opening fire.
He later bragged β5 shots, 7 holesβ.
DHS tried to smear her reputation but video footage vindicated her.
Next week she will testify in Washington about ICEβs brutality.
1984, Hunger Games, The Parable of the Sower, Lord of the Rings, The Handmaid's Tale, Fahrenheit 451, The Memory Police, Tender is the Flesh
Sometimes screaming into the void feels lonely, it's nice to read a book that sees everything you're going through, and gives you something to take back with you. They also help quiet the noise for a little while. These are my recs
Ooooo, these all cut deep, but Tender Is The Flesh really does a fab job of illustrating how little society really cares about people/how easy it is to manipulate people into accepting atrocities.
Catherine OβHara didnβt steal scenes she just showed up and ownership automatically defaulted to her
A box of 500 blue 3D printed scary antifa anti-ICE whistles
Apparently another friend has printed a few (500) whistles for me to take to Mardi Gras... anyone on #NOLAsky who wants some for community action work?
This is the BEST explanation I have seen so far.
Nobody is, and nobody can drive on it, despite being βfrom NY/MA/CT/etc.β The northern transplants are the WORST (and I am one but my dad was a trucker and taught me about black ice when I was a kid in PA).
Iβm in NC - black ice is worthy of your terror. Idk about quicksand or the Bermuda Triangle, but Iβm definitely also terrified of quicksand.
Now, I havenβt dug into all the statistics. But Iβm willing to bet a mortgage check that the greatest danger to the family of a DHS agent is the DHS agent.
A very misshapen king cake that vaguely resembles a large brain in profile, covered in purple, green, and gold sugar with messy purple, green, and gold sugar fleur-de-lis sprinkled here and there.
Made a huge mess of a king cake. Triple stranded, 2 cinnamon brown sugar filled, 1 lemon-cream cheese filled. Itβs cerebral, no? Dr Maw Maw commented, βThis is your brain on Mardi Gras.β
Men who defend Jonathan Ross for murdering Renee Good are not safe to be around. End those relationships.
Me too! I def need to re-read the first one with fresh eyes full of hindsight hahaha
My husband & I are both like this, for me itβs mainly architectural, art, & old furniture & lights. For him itβs mainly old products. Watched the Welcome To Derry grocery store epi w/o him, then refused to watch it w/him because I knew heβd be pausing every 2 frames for an hour.
Despite all the horrors, I just finished reading βWe Love You, Bunny,β by Mona Awad. Granted, emotional stability isnβt my strong point rn (hormones + the horrors), but Iβm pretty impressed w/writing that makes me both laugh & cry at a My Little Pony. Great writing, Bunny! #booksky
I *just* finished it. And was shocked to see that so many people didnβt finish it - like, wut? I loved it! π°
This is blasphemy!
Exactly. We don't need to post "say her name" when the literal mayor of the city has already done a press conference about her death.
"Say her name" is for the people who would otherwise be forgotten.
