Promoted by Dr. King’s focus to end the Vietnam war. Lobbying efforts to Pope John Paul II and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to rebuke SA apartheid program. Advocated for Arab American solidarity in quest for a Palestinian state.

Appointed Special Envoy for the Promotion of Democracy in Africa by President Clinton. 1997 mandate sustaining democratic reform in Africa. Cited by SA President Mandela in effort to end apartheid in South Africa.

Designed long-view, domestic social net programs for Americans in federal poverty. Fact witness evaluation for Medicaid and Medicare. Mobilized coalition scoping for nutritional aid/food insecurity. Secured versatile perception surveys in support of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Rainbow Coalition for marginalized people including Black, Latino/a, Middle Eastern, Asian, and Native American, farmers, poor, and working class people. Proposed Works Progress Administration for job creation, increased funding for public education, and reparations for descendants of slavery.

Led corporations to sign covenants committed to hiring Black workers coalition efforts to evolved to People United to Serve Humanity, later Rainbow PUSH Coalition in 1996.

Secured economic mobility of intragenerational Americans. Appointed by Dr. King to lead Operation Breadbasket in Chicago (branch of SCLC) in 1966 to improve economic life for Black Americans. Boycotted soft drink bottle distributors for discriminatory hiring practices.

🕊️ Rest in Peace, Rev. Jesse Jackson. Visionary for shared humanity. Treated symptoms of poverty/hunger/economic injustice with diplomacy strengthened by intersectional solidarity in multi-racial, Black and Brown communities.

The Story of Futures Studies: An Interdisciplinary Field Rooted in Social Sciences This article presents the almost century-long history of the development of futures studies in a comprehensive review. Futures studies, rooted in sociology and policy sciences, had become an academic discipline by the 1960s. One of the major global communities representing the discipline, the World Futures Studies Federation (WFSF), celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023. In the 1970s, the focus was placed on discourses on global problems and preferred futures. Futures studies then developed a global institutional community and become a mature discipline by the 1980s and 1990s. Futurists by then had already mutually shared theoretical perspectives, objectives, ethics, and methods, and had produced empirical results. A wide range of comprehensive publications at that time synthesized the foundations and preceding results of futures studies. From the turn of the millennium, active discourse took place on the forthcoming role of futures studies. By that time, the theoretical, methodological, and practical knowledge foundations of the discipline had also appeared in internationally well-documented curricula. Since around 2010, the discipline has been characterized by the development of practical foresight projects. Based on notable trends and identified research gaps, this article formulates up-to-date expectations and research directions within which futures studies might develop in the future.
