Not to be a language nonprescriptivist, but that isn’t “what decimating means” any more. In common language, almost no one understands it to have that meaning any more. The purpose of language is to communicate ideas, and this does that perfectly.
Or do we still think “gay” means “stately”?
We have to be able to *actually* change the Constitution
We need a unicameral legislature. We do not need a President. We need something like twice as many members in our new legislative branch than we have total currently. We need a Constitution more like other developed nations (say, New Zealand, where it’s not a formalized doc; just their body of law)
What we’re going to need, very specifically, to accomplish this is a whole-ass new Constitution.
The good news on that front is we’re functionally operating without one at this point, so lots of space to fill
Don’t worry about context; just understand that this perfectly sums up…[gestures vaguely at the very concept of existence]
But being in the inactive reserves is ABSOLUTELY still being in the Marines, and so Platner would absolutely have been granted a pass for his sleeves.
I would guarantee it was his Nazi tattoo.
Now, before you say, “but he was OUT! He did his four years!”
No. That’s not how this works. In fact, when you enlist, you sign an 8-year contract that consists of four (or sometimes five) year *active* duty, with the remainder in the reserves, either active or inactive.
That being the case, in “C” school in ‘09, we were all very aware of the tattoo policy, and so we asked our instructor about it. He was grandfathered in, just like Platner would have been. In fact, that meant he could continue his sleeves, and was planning to.
Well, unsurprisingly, the Marines at the depot had no idea what it was, so I had to very specifically and strenuously explain where it came from, why I had it, and what it meant.
In the end, they believed me, and that was that.

In boot camp at Parris Island, we had gone through the evaluation of our tattoos to determine if they had any racist or gang-affiliation connotations. At the time, I only had two tattoos: one was my wife’s name and the other was the Crying Minotaur from Radiohead’s Amnesiac.
I was in the Marine Corps in 2009, specifically in “C” School for my MOS at NAS Pensacola. Our class had a SSgt instructor with lower-arm sleeves; really cool flames up to the elbow.
This thread sums up Platner and really gels with my experience as well.
I have to believe that he just fundamentally cannot synthesize this new information with his deep belief that Putin is is friend and respects him and listens to him.
Burn.
It.
Down.
Today in “Humanity is Definitely All Over Now”
BREAKING: The “everyone is 12 now” theory confirmed yet again.
Actually, Reagan went to Eureka College…

This has nothing to do with the specific content here, but Polymarket adopting the language of news, here with BREAKING, and with Texas election results earlier this week, is BAD. Polymarket is not and will never be a news org or break news. It's a betting app. It's Draft Kings for sociopaths.
So many options! No presidency; just a huge Parliament, at least 700-800 members! Unicameral! Let’s go, NewMerica!
Hold on.
He’s saying that they’re asking for peace and we’re telling them that we’re killing them regardless? Is there an outcome that *does* stop the fighting, then? Or is he literally just saying that we’ll continue the war no matter what Iran does?
This would end any other presidency.
The GenAI that the CEOs of all major publications are probably trying to force into their newsrooms probably won’t let them.
D’oh! Forgot the sweet plane.
Also the sweet plane.
flames, side of face etc
The former, 100%
He is too dumb to not act with utter unearned confidence
Ask yourselves: has any administration before ever done so much for the child rapist voting bloc?
I submit to you that they have not!
amend the constitution to require that dismissed government employees announce their departures via 16 bars rapped over a BOSS Dr-55, filmed and uploaded to YouTube, TikTok, and Threads
Who would even be the “no” votes that would prevent his confirmation? Fetterman says he’s all in…
I appreciate that that’s only one, but that’s a GOP defection that doesn’t help stop his confirmation, now, and I’m just not pulling enough names that will block a colleague…
sending employees & nominees to get owned by Congress in front of cameras is a weird fetish but on the evidence it must hit hard. I'm game
