I use the adage, "I can teach it to you, but I can't learn it for you," as a mantra with my trainees. It's really changed my views on how to treat people who stubbornly refuse to. If you internalize that then you can Pity-the-Fool instead of trying to control them.

"It's like a ziyarat to honor my ancestors from the Ozarks," I tell myself, to lend it some sense of nobility and spiritual significance.

Going to do the "recycling center->grocery store for beer->cornerstore for smokes and lottery tickets" loop to reaffirm my connection to my ancestors.

I misspoke, I bought this for $100, 18 months ago. Amazon lists it for $530. It was around $480 last week.

A G.Skill Trident, 32GB (2x16GB), memory kit listed for $3980.00. I bought this same kit 18 months ago for around $150.
Is this a good price?

I cracked apart my current laptop (already had it for 5 years) to drop more RAM, a new SSD, and a faster WiFI card. It was tense. Not difficult, just a bit nerve wracking doing it for the first time. I wouldn't want to do that on one I just purchased.

Depending on your tech-comfort, you can always add (some of) those things later, depending on the laptop model. I opted to pay upfront for the warranty and so that it was set up from Day 1. I've bought all of my laptops from them, going back almost 20 years.

Buy the fastest laptop that you can afford. My 8-year old laptop can still do everything, except play modern games at high resolutions. Xotic-PC is a great place for customized options that the manufacturers don't offer. More RAM (vital), faster WiFi/LAN cards), bigger SSDs, etc.

On the engineering side, they're often only ever good at their "one thing." They might even be really great at that "one thing." Ask them to think critically and what you get is an answer filtered solely through that "one thing."

The funny thing about working around these types is it's really easy to tell the people in STEM who didn't spend much time studying the Humanities.

The USCG is different in that E4 is automatic when you graduate A-school, but I will say that type of dude would have been on the rare "self-separation" career track.

I spent the past two hours hanging a medicine cabinet (I opted for "level" because "square" just wasn't going to happen without shit spilling out) and somehow things even more stupid have happened in the world.

This has got to be a patronage/cost-cutting thing... and even that is a stretch. A West Coast-RTC had been talked about for a very long time, but personnel-costs were prohibitive. Then it was a Gulf Coast or Great Lakes-pipedream. Birmingham? ffs.

I know Lunday is "in charge," but the FORCECOM/TCM-mafias can't be happy about this.

I realize that many people do not understand the context of the AA-coffee reference, but I assure you that it is the lowest of bars to cross. There's a whole weird mythology about making coffee in AA. "New-guy/gal coffee" is shorthand for truly awful coffee.

I'd throw Brandon Williams in there as well. A big part of Mannion's win was the attempt to paint him as a lunatic and closet-commie in the primary and later in the general, but like... no. Talk to the guy for two minutes and he's about as genteel as they come. The GOP couldn't understand that.

Love their donuts, but their coffee is straight shit from a butt. Even the brew-your-own is terrible. I bought a can at Costco and immediately understood why Massholes hate themselves and everyone else.

When I am sick, my ol' Lady follows me around the house with a can of Lysol and treats me like a leper.
When she is sick, she whines about needing hugs and I fall for it and get sick as a result.
Once again, I am now getting sick. This time with the flu, as reported by the at-home test.

Laci Peterson? My aunt and uncle were almond farmers in Escalon and knew her parents (who had a dairy farm). I don't know if it was true, but they said they offered up their house for her wedding venue (very popular, non-church spot).

To riff off of what @jeremyhammett.bsky.social said a few days ago... if you really wanted to set a crime-drama somewhere that there was a lot of crime, mystery, and intrigue... my offer is to set it in Modesto (or at least Modesto before 2010 when it started to get really big).

One of the serial-killers was Fresno. He cut the head off of the biologist that I was a camp counselor for during sixth-grade camp. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if I was two-degrees from the Golden State Killer or Zodiak, but I've got 3 and decided I didn't want to look into it.
