Flier for a Silent Book Club event titled "Beer in ancient Mesopotamia"
Image showing the book cover for In the Land of Ninkasi: A History of Beer in Ancient Mesopotamia by Tate Paulette and listing two recent book awards
I'll be hosting a Silent Book Club event this Thursday, Feb 5, 6β8pm at The Bike Library cafe in downtown Raleigh, NC. I'll talk a little about my book and will bring along a selection of other books about ancient Mesopotamia, beer, and archaeology for browsing. Hope to see you there!
The quality of beer and brewing history has certainly improved. It's become perceived as a serious subject - at last.

Promotional image for my upcoming course with the Newberry Library in Chicago: "The 30-Year Journey of Chicago's Lager Beer Riot." Image depicts a little girl holding two foaming mugs of beer, over a beer barrel (obviously shopped). Image also includes details of the course: will take place virtually Tuesdays from April 7 through April 28th, 2026, from 2-3:30 PM, for a total of 4 sessions. Hope to see you there!
Pls help me spread the word!
Registration is open for my virtual course on Chicago's Lager Beer Riot of 1855.
Learn how German Chicagoans brought European food riot traditions to the US, and how a few minutes of brawling shaped decades of Chicago beer & politics.

Such a pleasure to be back ...
Thanks Ron. Martyn was going to send me more material cut from the book. I'm not sure how accessible it is. Yes, Dave is fully behind the project.
Yes, it will. Any suggestions Ron?
We would like to thank his brother, Dave Cornell, for his help with this project.
Content will include articles that have appeared in the journal over the past 40 plus years and posts from his Zythophile blog. Please let us know, via Bluesky, if there are any specific blog posts that you would like to see in print.
We are very pleased to announce that 'Brewery History' will be publishing a special issue later this year containing a selection of Martyn Cornellβs work.
We would like to welcome Dr Christina Wade @braciatrix.bsky.social on to the editorial board of Brewery History.

Due to a number of factors Brewery History is unfortunately behind schedule. However, we intend to rectify this by publishing several issues over the next few months. Simultaneously, we will also be making older issues free to access. The latest can be found here: bit.ly/48No9SU

Following on from @boakandbailey.bsky.social post some years ago about The Britannia, Brussels, 1958 here's a pub proposed for the Berlin Exhibition of 1966. But was it actually built?
