NATIONAL DAY of ACTION VIRTUAL ONLINE SATURDAY, MARCH 7TH, 12:00PM - 3:00PM
We're hosting a virtual rally for those who are not able to attend a March 7th National Day of Action event in person. We don't think structural barriers should prevent anyone from being able to participate in a movement that directly impacts their lives.

@goldenstatewarrior.bsky.social's Coach Steve Kerr is standing up for campus freedom!
Coaches across the nation launched a letter campaign calling on elected officials to keep political interference out of our colleges and universities.
We can't have college sports without academic freedom.
We've had enough of the censorship at Texas A&M.
Sign the petition to demand that the Board of Regents end their policy of auditing syllabi & canceling courses that mention race or gender.
The policy prevents faculty from teaching openly & students from learning freely.

A major victory! ✊
"This is a member-driven landmark achievement that will have an enormous impact in Kansas. This would not be possible without the courage of our members, who dug in and fought so hard because they knew that a fair contract was possible.”
—Todd Wolfson, AAUP President
The far right's new politicized higher ed accreditor is illegitimate.
"Rather than protecting educational quality, the CPHE appears designed to give partisan political actors a powerful new tool to pressure universities to conform to a narrow ideological agenda"
— Todd Wolfson, AAUP President
“Father Brian Shanley is violating New York state law & ignoring decades of St. John’s institutional practice & centuries of Catholic social teaching around respect for labor & workers."
— Sophie Bell, St. John's University AAUP President
“Protecting #AcademicFreedom requires clear, enforceable protections and procedures, including processes through which alleged infringements on academic freedom can be adjudicated by faculty peers.” #ProtectHigherEd

In response to our academic freedom campaign, Yale has created a new committee to address the issue. Yale AAUP welcomes the administration’s recognition that academic freedom is the lifeblood of the university, but faculty need action, not just statements.

Congrats to @ncaaup.bsky.social & all who fought against this surveillance policy that would've allowed admin to hijack microphones in the classroom for secret recordings.
This move would've chilled classroom discussion & suppressed students' willingness to ask questions & take intellectual risks.
Today, the VSU Fired Six brought the fight to the Virginia Capitol to advocate for higher ed workers to be included in collective bargaining legislation so that VA workers can be empowered to negotiate for workplace protections so illegal terminations without due process end.

The New School AAUP slams the university’s plans to cut faculty & programs & offers solutions to increase collaboration between trustees, administrators, & faculty.
@newschoolaaup.bsky.social
This policy would've created a Big Brother atmosphere in the classroom that would stifle the free exchange of ideas, chill student discussion, & suppress the requisite willingness to ask questions & take intellectual risks.
Unethical surveillance policies have no place in higher education.”
“Abolishing tenure cripples scientific & creative research...
This sends a strong message that top-tier academics seeking employment at Oklahoma universities should look elsewhere immediately. Why pursue a job here under such a repressive climate?”
— Michael Givel, OU AAUP President
“Our vision for a fully-funded public education, where a professor can write and teach freely, and can challenge every vapid, cruel argument federal and state governments make, sustains us. It’s what we’re fighting for.”
—Todd Wolfson, AAUP President

TODAY: The House is expected to vote on legislation aimed at stopping Trump’s war with Iran.
The American people do not want another forever war in the Middle East. Urge your representative to support the War Powers Resolution to rein in Trump and prevent further military operations in Iran.
Accreditation -- not only a bureaucratic snafu but now a means to interfere in higher education, learning, teaching, and research.
@higheredlabor.bsky.social
Educators have been put on the frontlines of immigration enforcement as ICE has terrorized communities and made families scared to send their kids to school. AFT is taking legal action to protect schools from ICE activity.

"These faculty were terminated without the required process, without meaningful notice, and without the protections that tenure and university policy are supposed to guarantee.”
—Chenjerai Kumanyika, AAUP Council Member
@chenjerai.bsky.social
“The court was explicit that the administration cannot ban all diversity, equity and inclusion. It needs to be bound by the existing law, not the Trump administration’s fantasy of the law.”
—Aaron Nisenson, AAUP Senior Counsel
Let Faculty Teach!
Let Students Learn!
The UNC Board of Governors just voted to rewrite the definition of academic freedom to effectively limit students' ability to fully engage in a variety of scholarly topics & limit open inquiry & academic debate in NC higher education.
@ncaaup.bsky.social
Columbia President with NEW details:
5 DHS agents entered a residency with no warrant.
They said they were police looking for a missing kid.
Security camera even captures them showing pictures of the "kid."
A campus officer asked for a warrant & their boss.
They ignored him & took the student.
What DHS did at Columbia is outrageous. Universities must not become extensions of immigration enforcement or sites of intimidation. The AAUP & AFT stand with students, faculty and campus communities demanding accountability and the protection of fundamental rights. www.aft.org/press-releas...
It is completely reasonable to email your dean and/or Provost to ask what is being done at your university to stop this from happening to your students
AAUP members are rejecting the Commission for Public Higher Education accreditation standards, which threatens to introduce unprecedented partisan influence over universities.
Check out this thread and graphics explaining what is at stake nationally, especially at southern universities⬇️
Homeland Security has abducted another @columbiauniversity.bsky.social student under false pretenses. More information to come.
