I know this is not necessarily a popular opinion in academia, but nothing brings me more energy to keep going than workshops and conferences! 😍
#HERB2026 in Bologna was awesome! 🙌
Thanks to the organizers: @pietrobiroli.bsky.social & David Dragone 🙏 I strongly encourage you to submit next year!

💻 Laptops are great, but not during class. 💻
Laptops are the standard in classrooms. This needs to change.
New meta-analysis of 24 experiments shows that handwriting will lead to higher grades for students.
So this 2017 NYTimes op-ed by @dynarski.bsky.social is even truer today.
🗣️ The debates were fantastic: from deepfake-driven political disruption to widening digital divides. Their creativity and critical thinking were inspiring to watch!

To make this more fun, I turned the lecture into a collaborative game:
🧩 Students worked in small groups around four posters: politics, gender & socio-economic inequalities, education, and work.
🔧 Each group imagined a worst-case scenario and a policy response to mitigate it.
Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of running a special session for our Master’s students at @lsesocialpolicy.bsky.social on Uncertainty in the Digital World during their Away Day at the Barbican, based on my ongoing research agenda (see my previous post about my JMP!).

Here's my thread of this year's new scholars in Economics of Education and Education Policy.
These PhD students and postdocs are on the job market, so take a look (and spread the word to others who might benefit from exposure).
And now onto the scholars... 👇
Thank you so much Kenza 🙏
Does it work for postdocs as well? 😁 Just posted about my JMP today on here 👉 bsky.app/profile/marg...
🙏
I’ll be available for interviews and would love to discuss how this research agenda on technology use and inequality is evolving 💻 🙌
Likes and shares are highly appreciated!

A bit more about me 👉 I’m a Postdoc at the London School of Economics, and an applied micro-economist with a research focus on economics of education, labor economics and household economics. My ongoing research investigates how parenting shapes children's social media use.
We find that:
📱 Parenting styles predict children’s behavior
⚙️ Beliefs shape parental practices
🎯 Information about social media risks raises awareness but also anxiety, while information about practices helps parents engage more effectively.
With my co-authors, we examine:
1⃣What drives the ways parents guide and manage their children’s digital consumption and exposure
2⃣ and whether parental beliefs and practices in the digital domain can be changed through targeted interventions.
🚨 Exciting news — I’m on the job market this year! 🚨
My Job Market Paper asks:
💡 How do parents manage their children’s social media use, and can we help them do it better?
📣Meet our #EconomicsJobMarket candidate Marta Curull! Her research fields are Labor Economics, Family Economics and Health Economics.

Does anybody have DHS data for Bangladesh?
Or is there a webpage where somebody managed to save previously available DHS data?
Thank you for your help!

I thank Almudena Sevilla for the opportunity to write this review and present it (cool pic of some other contributors of the issue and participants to the launch event below! 👇), as well as @paolaprofeta.bsky.social for her help and insights in writing this!
