A grande questão é que lazer e diversão não tem que servir para “nada útil”, seja leitura ou game. Esse utilitarismo constante de tudo me cansava nos game studies de linha mais pedagógica ou social.
Me irrita muito quando gente de outras áreas se mete a falar de videogame, pq é sempre
1. A opinião mais rasa possível (como seria diferente?)
2. O VG nunca é cisto como um movimento em si, sempre como uma ferramenta ou algo que precisa de “utilidade”
Eu fiz um post que “hitou” na rede que mais desprezo (LinkedIn, argh) e fiquei com mixed feelings sobre quem eu sou no mundo depois disso. :(
PS 2. What motivated me to write this thread was actually a conversation — I was about to post in Portuguese recommending the best games I played this year, but when I mentioned these games to a friend in person, he pointed out they were English-only and said, “I won’t be able to play them.” 😞
PS. I know many of you are indie teams (or “one person team”, even) — but these games are gaining real visibility. Please consider partnering locally or allocating budget for this much-needed Portuguese translation.
These three are incredible. But I hate recommending them with a warning: “Only if you understand English REALLY well.”
Brazil has one of the largest gaming (and loud) communities in the world.
We deserve access too. 💔
But why is that a big deal? Well…
These are text-heavy, narrative-first games.
You need to understand the language — not just to play, but to actually get the jokes, the lore, the political undertones, and the emotional weight behind each line.
No PT-BR = lost in translation.
