Kupffer cell reverse migration into the liver sinusoids mitigates neonatal sepsis and meningitis Restricted access of Kupffer cells to the bloodstream in newborns is linked to increased systemic bacterial infections and higher mortality.

In this work, they demonstrate that the migration of KCs into liver sinusoids depended on macrophage migration inhibitory factor and its receptor CD74 but occurred independently of the microbiome.

Yesterday, Paul Kubes gave an outstanding lecture at our institute @unibern.bsky.social . It was refreshing to see research where, for once, the microbiota did not take center stage. Congratulations to the talented scientists behind this impressive work, now published in Science Immunology.
