it's extra frustrating as well if they do the whole "oh we ruined Earth/our home planet so we have to build a ship to go somewhere else instead" schtick. unless Earth has been blown up by the death star or something, what's stopping you from just putting your habitats on Earth.
- the materials to build more habitats. small airless rocks are probably way more common than habitable planets anyway so you might not have to go as far and could have a shorter journey since there's way more options available.
(you can also just stay at home and build habitats there too)
i don't like it when sci-fi media has people spending years or decades living in a spaceship travelling to some faraway habitable planet that is supposedly the only place they can live on. you're clearly capable of living in a habitat for extended periods of time, why not instead go somewhere with -
