We’re glad that Kristi Noem has been fired and she should face real accountability for DHS’ rampant violence.
But Noem’s firing doesn’t suddenly solve the crisis at DHS. Swapping personnel without changing course is not accountability — it’s a spin tactic. What we really need is structural change.
This is the man who is now in charge of US Homeland Security.

A Haitian asylum seeker died in ICE custody after being held for 4 months. One local official said the man, Emmanuel Damas, had died after not getting timely medical care for an infected tooth. He is at least the 10th detainee to die this year.
