The second visualization shows the betweeness centrality of each article in the network, which shows the articles that act as bridges between other clusters of nodes in the network. These serve as "points of control" because, without them, the network would fall apart.

The first visualization shows the eigenvector centrality of each article in the network, which is determined by the number of citations the article has received. The higher the eigenvector centrality, the larger the node.

These visualizations, from my article recently published in CCC, shows a citation network of articles published in CCC that cite other CCC articles.

In network science, there are multiple ways to determine the "center" of a network.

My Reflections on the 2025-26 Academic Job Market Some reflections on the 2025-26 academic job market, my job market stats, and a few pieces of advice for future job seekers.

Being the data dork I am, I collected some interesting stats from my 2025-26 academic job search and put them together in a blog post with some of my thoughts on the market this year:

There is a rightwing student network targeting faculty who engage in research and teaching or simply exist in ways that contradicts their political views and we have to develop strategies to avoid falling into their traps while collectively organizing to protect academic freedom from their attacks

It’s so hard to stay motivated during the fall semester when you’re on the job market because it really feels like you’re sending your applications into the void.

Please tell me it gets better? 😭

Interesting that we’re seeing ads for ChatGPT now.

It’s almost like they over-promised and under-delivered and are having trouble finding people who are actually willing to pay to use it.

I actually don't really care if AI is useful/interesting/good for some things in education actually - it is besides these things clearly a big problem already that maybe need listing yet again:

Today I graded my students’ resume writing assignments and found out that one of them has an op-ed in the local newspaper, another has a pretty successful YouTube channel, and another has A WIKIPEDIA PAGE.

They are so damn cool, ya’ll.

At the last minute she turned and said "enjoy your wedding," then walked out the door.

But then, a few seconds later, she stuck her head back in and said:

"Actually, no. I don't want the last thing I say to you to be about your husband. I hope you have a great summer!"

What a legend.

When the class ended, I said my goodbyes, trying my best not to get choked up, and the students started to leave.

The last one out the door was a female student who I particularly enjoyed teaching and chatting with at the end of each class.
