Oh I'm with you here. The Yglesias theory is that Dems would look strong by saying "screw you" to their voters and retreating to the poll-tested median position on all issues (other than his pet concerns).

I think this is...unlikely.

A possibility I am grappling with is that these issues from Platner may actually be helping him in the election. I think we all have to consider that his strong polling right now might not be "despite" his Nazi-curious background.
