Well hold on, let's see if a big UK party might do a practical experiment for us.

Oh.

Oh no.

OK hold on...

There is a stark divide in Christianity between those who think Christianity is primarily about what happens to you when you die and those who think it tells you how to live on Earth.

I haven’t done something quite like that, but we rolled out Claude this week. We had a 70 page very messy PDF and it processed it perfectly. Heard it worked great even on scanned docs.

Just do it and be legends

Ha I know. Grudging respect to Ken Paxton *spits*.

I was not at all prepared for how angry I was going to get about the nonsense in this book.

This was one of those where I had to pause to talk to myself in the car about every 5 minutes.

Doesn't really come through in the stills but man it looks great.

And what's interesting is that if you check the poll results, he's doing the best among high-income voters.

05.03.2026 22:12 πŸ‘ 13 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah the polling suggests they're right about his appeal, but instead of being honest about that reality sort of sucking they are asking us to pretend we don't see it.

what i think is going on w/ graham platner fwiw: a certain cohort of D pundits & self-appointed leaders, disproportionately male and gentile, have decided that in order to appeal to low-trust men (whose votes they seem to think count more) it's necessary to allow a little antisemitism, as a treat

Oh I'm with you here. The Yglesias theory is that Dems would look strong by saying "screw you" to their voters and retreating to the poll-tested median position on all issues (other than his pet concerns).

I think this is...unlikely.

Super helpful, thanks for all the input!

Was that the one where she contacted her troll? Or was there another one?

too many of you are arguing with Cryin Ryan Grim when you should be Climbin the Grim Tower with playable characters like Ironclad, The Silent, and Necrobinder. Slay The Spire 2 coming to steam early access later today

What's the best way to get into Stellaris these days? Do they have a subscription to get all the DLC? Are there a couple of key ones?

Another way to say this is that he thinks Democrats should concede to popularism on issues he doesn't care about but often (e.g. rent controls) resist conceding to popularism on issues he cares about.

Very hard not to see his punditry as personal preference with the trappings of objectivity.

"You BlueSky people are in such a bubble, you don't even know the insane Neo-Nazi conspiracy theory about the Neo-Nazi candidate we're all supporting!" -Ryan Grimm

More specifically Yglesias is allergic to the idea of moral beliefs in politics. He thinks they are inconvenient and an impediment to winning.

05.03.2026 13:40 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes. They all gassed themselves up on Twitter about how nuts BlueSky is about Platner, and Grim came here to set the record straight.

With a made-up fact from the founder of VDARE.

05.03.2026 13:37 πŸ‘ 28 πŸ” 5 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

No man he might just be unimaginably stupid. Is that better?

05.03.2026 04:48 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

The extent of their thought here seems to be β€œwell voters like him why can’t you?!?”

Because they just can’t seem to conceive of actual principles.

05.03.2026 00:12 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Also, to be really clear on the podcast, it would be a dramatically better story for him if he just knew it was popular but didn’t know anything else.

But nope, he went on and said he was a huge fan.

05.03.2026 00:11 πŸ‘ 8 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

BlueSky is self-selected as a group of people who have principles they live by even when there is a cost.

Everyone here left larger, existing social networks because they said β€œthat’s not acceptable to me.” Especially palling around with Nazis.

If you stayed, that is inconceivable.

05.03.2026 00:09 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Stop stop don’t make me like Barry.

04.03.2026 21:51 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah the β€œI love a criminal asshole” has two really strong candidates in Trump and Paxton. No surprise to see the crossover.

What will be interesting is Trump usually likes to pick winners to look like did something, so he would probably lean Cornyn.

04.03.2026 19:01 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

A possibility I am grappling with is that these issues from Platner may actually be helping him in the election. I think we all have to consider that his strong polling right now might not be "despite" his Nazi-curious background.

04.03.2026 16:46 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Uh hey it happened again.

04.03.2026 04:41 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Looks like after, they decided in January.

04.03.2026 03:34 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

First and most importantly, this sucks.

Strategically baffling, though. Crockett is probably toast but the Republicans have pushed her hard. This very likely hurts her chances.
