Neighborhood walk with the 2 megapixel camera this afternoon. Love this weather, especially on this tiny sensor. It does #Detroit justice!

Unfortunately, this church, St. Hyacinth, is likely closing : (

I'd love to see the former school turned into housing (or a hostel???).

The Detroit Ice Machine Company, or DIMCO, for short, was a titan of the refrigeration industry in Detroit for decades. Today, their home is owned by a demolition company that's been trying to sell it for close to $1,000,000. Check it out: youtu.be/lOk9QhPhajQ

Ha, I totally get that. I think that the growth and connection that removing 75/375 would be greater than that of the Lodge. not to say one is more worthy than the other. IMO, get rid of both of them, ha. Get rid of them and put rail over top with linear parks and housing!

05.03.2026 18:32 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Lots of good responses to this on IG this morning. The only reason I didn't include the Lodge, too, is that having ONE depressed highway for people to get to and from downtown could relieve surface street traffic for Detroiters after events. As you improve transit, it could be removed as well.

05.03.2026 17:59 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I think they are planning to get rid of 375, but they are doing a feasibility study on capping 75 near downtown. Get rid of 375, that would be great. But capping anything is just admitting you made a mistake without fixing the problem, IMO. Better than nothing, I guess!

While we're at it, let's put Jefferson between the Lodge and 375 underground, and extend the Riverfront with lots of GREEN space (love Hart Plaza, but it isn't green)

Hear me out...what if we just completely got rid of all the highways highlighted in pink and created linear parks with dense, affordable housing surrounding the heart of downtown Detroit and some of it's most popular neighborhoods (Midtown, Eastern Market, Corktown, etc.)

This structure will almost certainly be demolished soon, and I don’t think anyone will bat an eye. Still, this corner is steeped in history, and the banking institution that once called it home saw the rise and fall of Poletown East. Check out this week’s video: youtu.be/N00ouxkBWfk

I’ve been spending the last month reporting on Philip Kafka’s presence in the Epstein files. I’ve been tasked with finding more Detroiters who are reconsidering their relationship with Core City businesses over this.

Let’s talk. It could make the difference in this getting published.

When we had our roof redone, quotes ranged between $14,000 and $54,000. I see lots of signs in yards around the Eastside for the companies that quoted us $45,000+ roof jobs. These are homeowners who had new roofs installed by these companies. A new roof shouldn't be more than my yearly salary.

You used to be able to find an affordable handyperson in Detroit for almost any project. Post-COVID, it just isn't possible. There are so many repairs we haven't been able to hire out because they're much more expensive than they were a few years ago.

A tattered paint sign for the Bailey Lounge in Detroit

The structure at 11700 Livernois in #Detroit suffered a devastating fire last evening. It was home to dozens of businesses over the years, including the Orange Peel, Rin-Sin, and Bailey Lounges. The upper floor was apartments, but the structure is likely now a tear down due to fire damage.
