Nothing beats the feeling of killing some plants with nasty pathogens creating flashy symptoms. #plantpathology #carrot #postharvestdiseases #epidemiology

Scientists have seen Asgard archaea crawling for the first time. When it comes to the origin of eukaryotes, this is like seeing a feathered dinosaur in the wild. (Video courtesy of Philipp Ralder)
Fig. 4. Lesion growth plotted against lesion area and lesion age. Yellow curves represent linear or nonlinear quantile regression fits; green lines show loess-smoothed trends. X axis limits were set to display all data points within the 99th percentile; models were fitted, and predictions are shown only within this range, due to limited data beyond this threshold. All coefficients of the regression models were statistically significant (P < 2.2 Γ 10β16).
Using deep learning-based image analysis, Jonas Anderegg et al. tracked 6,889 individual lesions caused by #Zymoseptoria tritici on 14 wheat cultivars across two field seasons, enabling 27,218 precise measurements of lesion growth in the field: https://doi.org/10.1094/PHYTO-05-25-0187-R

In the 2nd, we studied pathogens in the symptomatic carrots and found out that *carrot storage diseases seem to be predominantly caused by mixed fungal infections.* Majority of symptoms hosted multiple known pathogens, up to 5/5 that we studied. Read more here: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
The first MS, led by Sannakajsa, presents how *high microbial diversity in the rhizosphere and soil improve carrot (Daucus carota L.) postharvest storability.* Read more here: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Two manuscripts out in bioRxiv π₯³ They describe our work on carrot storage diseases and factors behind it. Big thanks to project leaders Terhi Suojala-Ahlfors and Satu Latvala, and to other co-authors Minna Haapalainen, Sannakajsa Velmala, @tainapennanen.bsky.social & Minna Pirhonen.
Journal publishers *are* bundling your papers up in "data licensing agreements" for big tech companies to use for AI model training. Our publisher, T&F, got Β£75m from Microsoft for that last year alone.
We're experiencing an unbelievable deluge of submissions. At our journal we got ~200 per year in 2020. Last year it was 600. This year it's 800 with several months to go. So that's why we're slower to get stuff out for review.
The 2025-26 Eco-Evo job list is out. Good luck to those applying!

What am I doing working late before holidays? Well, plating a few dozen Pythium samples from lettuce roots collected on Monday. @marikara.bsky.social shows a great example of possible symptoms: small roots and slow growth despite green color. π

This week we launched field work on our forest demonstration sites at SW Finland! #ClimateAdaptation solutions and roadmaps coming up for end-users through our #Precilience #EuHorizon project @luke.fi
Lol. I almost commented about the duplication :D :D I also noticed a repeating pattern of duplicated word "many" in your messages. Could the author please clarify this? ;)
So many words and so few answers to the justified concerns about irregularities in publications. You could simply clarify and correct the work, if you could.
The forest pathology theme continued this week as I joined @eterhone.bsky.social and other @luke.fi forest pathologists for an inspection of a forest regeneration site. Learning about forestry, forest pests and pathogens, and more β€οΈ #ClimateAdapation #HorizonEurope #LakkakÀÀpΓ€ @mip4adapt.bsky.social
Two weeks ago we had a wonderful consortium meeting of #Precilience project in Tartu, Estonia. It was great as ever, insipiring people and disucssions, learning a lot of new facts and ideas. This is definitely the best part of my role as project coordinator! π₯°π€―π€
Imagine not having duplications π€―
