I was expelled from the Party. "Every comrade saw you jumping there, it was embarrasing!", they said.

I have tried the playtest/demo for this System Shock-inspired puzzler FPS-RPG, it's pretty neat!

Did you do the sign-up last year?
Thick As Thieves (pvpve multiplayer stealth game by OtherSide Entertainment, Warren Spector, Greg LoPiccolo, and Paul Neurath) playtest invitations have been sent out!
I think I'm going back to singleplayer immersive sims soon 🫰
Building a contraption to send yourself high up:

Using explosion blast to turn fixed explosive mine into a mobile nuke:

Stacking traps to climb, fly with ARC rockets, and cancel fall damage:

ARC Raiders just killed its own Deus Ex "LAM Climbing" moments:
- stacking traps to create a foothold to cancel fall damage ❌
- using explosion to turn fixed mine into a mobile nuke ❌
- building barricade contraption to send yourself up ❌
This technique basically turns a stationary mine that permanently attaches to a surface into a mobile nuke; the energy of blast also determines how far the mine can fly, one trigger ‘nade pushes about 50-60 meters, two 100-120 meters.
Learned this tech from other players, great feeling when it worked:
- Trigger 'Nade (remote c4) gives the blast
- Remote Raider Flare provides a non-fixed stand
- Deadline (timed explosive mine) attaches to one side of the flare and gets blown away with it to kill boss ARC
Half of the things you can do with a grappling hook in ARC Raiders. I'm impressed as a singleplayer immersive sim enjoyer.
How's the AI behavior and tools in Hunt? ARC Raiders grabbed me not because of the atmosphere but all the emergent moments coming from AI behaviors, unique human encounters and things their tools (like the snap hook) allow me to do.
ARC Raiders might be the best multiplayer game I can recommend to singleplayer immersive sim enjoyers, better if you are the stealthy, pacifist, packrat, introvert type (like me).
Happy Spring Festival!🧧🎉🎆
Thank you rau!
My new year has come. Happy Chinese New Year! You met me at a very Chinese time in your life. 🐴
Examples gathered so far, thank you for your answers!
- Fable
- Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain
- inFamous: Second Son
- Black and White
- Knights of the Old Republic
- Mass Effect 2
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Epic Mickey (unused)
Thank you for the examples, I know what games I’ll do research on tonight :)
Do you know any more examples of mechanics like body morphing from Fable (absent from the reboot) and demon points from Phantom Pain? They are such interesting ways to show consequences of player actions.
