A Texas university created by Palanatir cofounder Joe Lonsdale and journalist Bari Weiss has raised some $150 million to teach 'forbidden courses' The University of Austin is being funded by tech bigwigs and others who think academia is broken.

Here's the $$$ behind the Texas school that will offer "forbidden courses"

I'm uneasy w/ a VC-backed uni but let's wait to judge. Campus culture has become politically monolithic. This could shake that up

Bluesky so far: A promising Twitter alternative with a lot of work to do I've been using Bluesky for two weeks and like what I've found so far.

Been on BlueSky two weeksβ€”my thoughts. Overall, love what you're building @jay.bsky.team. Keep up the great work!

Homeless, Unemployed, and Surviving on Bitcoins The bitcoin system could become an equalizer for the country’s homeless, a place where the stigma of living on the streets isn’t as pronounced. If you’re homeless, the great thing about bitcoin is that you can set up a wallet without an ID or a street address. And once you start filing this wallet, there are plenty of ways of converting bitcoins into cash and food and other goods, all without identification.

The way we were: 10-year old Wired story οΏΌsays homeless people should mine/earn bitcoin instead of panhandling!

The QR-Code Menu Is Being Shown the Door A dining innovation that once looked like the future has worn out its welcome with many restaurateurs, customers and servers who say it takes the joy out of dining.

To be *very* clear on this, We only take actions like this if its *clear* to us that the user in question is actively and maliciously inviting bad users. Its very easy to tell if someone just invited a one-off bad actor by accident vs someone who is intentionally bringing on edgelords

What Bluesky Tells Us About the Future of Social Media The new platform aims to be a decentralized alternative to Twitter. The vibe there is mostly like that of a Portland coffee shop.

This is a good take on the vibe so far on BlueSky

I’d love to hear Dorsey and Graber’s thoughts οΏΌon how this can be β€œmore than a liberal inverse of Truth Social” (but can’t find their handles!)

Watching George Santos wander into the federal criminal justice system all confident and happy and jokey is like watching the slutty football team captain wander into the abandoned boathouse at midnight in a slasher movie. You know what’s coming and you feel gross looking forward to it.
