A friend of mine landed his first job as a pentester with the title Senior Consultant. How?
He was able to demonstrate his customer facing, customer engagement and relationship building skills. This was a problem for the company, he was able to address that.
Think about the problems you can solve
If you want to be a CISO and your resume is 6+ pages long, you’re making a mistake.
Your resume is not an autobiography, it’s a marketing document people are assessing to see if you are a good fit for their needs.
You influence others in your day-to-day role. Apply that same skill to your resume.

#CyberCon Day two
The key to landing (almost) any job, especially leadership roles: 1. The people interviewing you need to trust you. The is especially important for leadership roles where the people hiring you can’t validate your skills. 2. The ability to communicate technical terms in a way your grandma could understand will help you go far. 3. Cybersecurity may not be as important as we think it is. Cyber can be viewed as just another function in a business, and your ability to influence others directly correlates to the impact you will have. 4. It sounds simple, but the people interviewing you want to feel confident you can do the job. How do you do that? Examples. Demonstrate how and where you’ve performed the role before. Focus on your impact. Highlight the before and after states, not just your actions. This means the what, don’t get lost in the weed of the how, unless they want to know. 5. Rapport. You don’t need to be best friends, but it helps if you the people interviewing you like you. They are hiring a human, not a robot. Those relationships can help you have a bigger impact and influence the changes you want to make. There are more recommendations to come, but nail these and you’ll be helping yourself.
