The most severe energy crisis since the 1970sβ¦ and the most severe climate crisis since humanityβs ancestors lived in trees. Both caused by the same dependency, both addressable by the same policies and technologiesβ¦ if only politics werenβt captive to whatβs killing us.

A window display of model metal cars - Matchbox sized, mainly 1940/50 cars.
A model of Elvis in his young pomp towers over them, a price tag hanging from his guitar.
The window display in the local knick-knack shop suggests a Kaiju Elvis, who has entered our world by stepping out of a drive-in screening of Jailhouse Rock. His nuclear fire breath has already laid waste to all around him.

Photo of a woman standing with her bike on the pavement by a city read. Traffic lights and a bus are in the background. To the right, a male cyclist is parking his bike at a stand.
It's time to tackle the cycling #GenderGap βοΈ
On #InternationalWomensDay we want to raise awareness of the barriers that stop women getting on bikes.
Our upcoming #WalkingCyclingIndex for Scotland reveals the number of women cycling in our cities is still half that of men π΄ββοΈ

One of the drivers seemed much more to blame than the other, but I arrived halfway through the argument & only saw from a distance so could be wrong.

Ok, so in the space of 2 minutes Iβve witnessed:
1 - two drivers having a punch up in the middle of the road at Drumbrae roundabout. π₯
2- a driver again speeding through a red light at the pedestrian crossing there. π¦

Remember to do one thing* every day that scares you.
*read from a book you think is too difficult for you because it's probably not and even if it's hard or you don't get it at first, if you stick with it you'll develop the resources to read it, & even if you don't what's the harm, losing a couple

During COVID, cities successfully reallocated street space from cars to people. We proved it works.
Itβs frustrating how quickly those changes vanished, restoring the oppressive status quo where cars dominate and people are pushed back to the margins.

Yorkshire Dales sheep and cattle swap boosts biodiversity - studies
Natural England began switching to cattle grazing at its Ingleborough site in the Dales in 2004.
Researchers found that replacing sheep with cattle at a site in the Yorkshire Dales - as part of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's Wild Ingleborough project - saw plant diversity increase by more than 40% and the number of butterflies increased.
More of this sort of thing.
