Interested in science, technology, history (and history of science and technology). I recognise the Guringai (Ku-ring-gai) language group of the Garigal Aboriginal clan as the Traditional Owners and holders of knowledge of the place where I live and work.

Hello #SilverTrunkSunday
So... We decided to introduce Bumble and Maple today. Here's the results...
They paired for around 7-8 minutes. Whilst this is not considered a long pairing, we've seen results from 5 minute pairings before. So hopefully, we see some Otiosus babies soon π₯Ή #jumpingspider

In the foreground is the sun-dappled turquoise water of a small lake. There are narrow waterfalls cascading over a ridge, into the lake. In between the plumes of water, long green plants hang gracefully from the top of the ridge. To the left of the waterfalls, a small tree is growing close to the lake and the leaves take on a yellow hue in the bright sunshine. Trees in various shades of green and yellow are growing behind the ridge. The sunlight is reflecting off the lake, the plants on the edge of the lake, and the waterfalls as they flow down.
One of the many waterfalls in the Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia.

This microscopic freshwater organism, Limnias malicerta, is a rotifer, recognized by its rotating wheel-like structures. It uses spinning cilia on its head to swim and capture tiny food like algae and bacteria.

Pseudotriton ruber - red salamander. a larval salamander seen from above, just under the surface of a chert-lined creek. has a long smooth body colored light brown with irregular tiny dark brown speckles. its head is the widest part of its body & features two little gold-tinted eyes. at its neck there are feathery red gills on each side, obscuring its front legs. its two back legs are blurry as is its tail.
Eurycea cirrigera - southern 2-lined salamander. an adult salamander sitting on flat bedrock at the edge of a creek, seen from the side. two bulbous eyes protrude near the front of its head; besides its two sets of small legs, its body is otherwise entirely smooth, and is detectably taller than wide by its tail. the top of the salamander is golden yellow, bounded by two black stripes that run all the way down its body. on its side it appears black with flecks of gold.
Plethodon dorsalis - northern zigzag salamander. an adult salamander curled into a J shape with its long tail as the ascender, sitting in moist dirt. its sides are light brown, but a thick, wavy orange line bordered in black runs down its back.

Rock carvings from Foum Chenna, Morocco. Prehistoric engravings showing cattle and other animals in the Draa Valley, evidence that this area was once much greener and inhabited by pastoral communities thousands of years ago.

Elements from Egyptian and Greek mythology are combined in this delicate figure. The view taken here is that Anubis is represented, wearing military costume and breastplate that signify his role as a fighter against the enemies of Osiris. He holds a staff topped by a cone-shaped object - the thyrsus carried by followers of Dionysus with whom the Greeks equated Osiris. In his other hand he carries a falcon. On the other hand, the snout and ears appear short for Anubis and more like those of a cat, and the short dress can be worn by Artemis who is associated with Bastet. The identity of the figure is, therefore, not certain. Roman, from Egypt, 2nd-3rd century CE. Height: 1 15/16 in. (4.9 cm) Met Museum, New York (67.190)
This lβil fella is a gold amulet from Roman Egypt, possibly representing the Egyptian god Anubis as a defender of Osiris-Dionysus. He wears a military tunic and breastplate, signifying him as a defender of Osiris; he also holds a thyrsus of Dionysus, equated with Osiris. πΊ 1/

Close-up of Pixie Cup lichen (Cladonia species) growing in a patch of moss on a woodland bank. Thin upright stalks rise from a leafy green base and end in small cup-shaped tips. The cups look like tiny goblets or trumpets standing above a miniature moss forest.

Close-up of Great Scented Liverwort (Conocephalum conicum), a liverwort bryophyte, growing on damp soil beside a woodland brook. Bright green flat lobed thalli spread across the bank, each surface marked with a striking mosaic of small polygon patterns. This liverwort releases a citrus scent when gently rubbed.
I was delighted to see this today, I think it is Great Scented Liverwort "Conocephalum conicum" growing on the bank of the brook in a Devon woodland.
