Happy birthday to the BEST, George Harrison, who would be 83 today. It was such a thrill back in 2021 to interview his widow, Olivia, and son Dhani on the 50th anniversary of his masterpiece, ALL THINGS MUST PASS.

I was similarly disappointed to learn recently that Terrence Malick's year at Oxford was not very impactful on him, and that he didn't enjoy his time there.
John Williams is 94 today, and I love him and his music more than the 300,000 (plus) words I've written about him could ever express.
A toast to the man who changed my life when I was 8 and first discovered his music, and again when I was 38 and he agreed to trust me to tell his life story, and who changes my mood for the better almost every single day.

I just can't get past the allergy of the cover band feeling this far away from the Henson/Oz era. (Which is why I haven't watched the new thing yet.)
Not a bad list, but it's a huge bummer to exclude Bryce Dessner's TRAIN DREAMS and Daniel Lopatin's MARTY SUPREME. (Daniel Blumberg's TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE didn't even make the shortlist, for shame.) And I would personally disqualify HAMNET for its egregious climactic needledrop.
