It is totally valid to criticize a respected scientist for appearing at an antivax crankfest, because the very act of appearing with the likes of Del Bigtree et al elevates them and diminishes the scientist.

What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards.
