I long for and will keep fighting for a world committed to dismantling structural and systemic racism and discrimination, including transphobia; and promoting mental health, preventing mental health issues, and supporting recovery from mental health issues. Fight for that world with me.
Iβm also thinking of trans people being blamed and targeted in the context of existing structural and systemic transphobia and violence against them. It is never acceptable to perpetuate & fuel transphobia by blaming trans people for the actions of one person.
And Iβm thinking of the students and educators throughout the province, across the country, and around the world feeling this so closely. Schools, colleges, and universities are places for learning, building community, and having positive societal impact. They should never be places of violence.
Iβm also thinking of the first responders and health and social service providers who are providing care and support while they are directly affected by the loss of loved ones and community members. Love to them.
Iβm thinking of the children, educator, and mother who were killed in Tumbler Ridge, those who were injured, and all their loved ones and community members who are traumatized and grieving. ππ½
Hey Canadian media ... "born as a biological male" is not the move when you're reporting on what happened in Tumbler Ridge.
Here's is the @transjournalists.org Style Guide if you are covering this story today

Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.
βHe canβt sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, βDaddy, Daddy,ββ Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.
Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the TaΓnos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous
Harper calling for unity is rich.
Everything about how we exist in society is a political choice. Continuing to allow people to be unhoused is a political choice. Unchecked grocery prices? A political choice. Potholes - political choice. Yeah, things must be weighed etc etc, but these are choices and we can demand better ones.
Judge orders 5-year-old Liam Ramos and his father be released from immigration detention, source says.

Canadians horrified by what ICE is doing should realize the RCMP uses the same tactics domestically against Indigenous people and yet barely anyone speaks up.
Journalists have been arrested just for trying to cover it
Here's a great GoFundMe from a CODA and interpreter trying to help deaf immigrant families. Their goal is $6,000.
An amazing MN Librarian assembled us a reading list to add to the website so people can do more than donate, they can learn to organize in their communities.

I'm willing to be unpopular for naming systemic racism & discrimination, and for being determined to dismantle it. We can't dismantle it without naming it and acknowledging its immense societal, community, family, and individual level harms. Thanks for the great question Dr. Rupaleem Bhuyan!
I'm reflecting on the questions just posed by a panelist:
1. What keeps you grounded?
2. What are you willing to be unpopular for?
3. What is your vision for the world you want to live in?

Yes! And so much talent!
Really grateful to South Asian Women and Immigrants' Services for providing an online option to join SAWIS Summit 2026-NO ONE LEFT BEHIND: Working together to build a community response. Though I wish I could be there in person, we need to come together in whatever ways possible to fight for equity.
I was so shocked to hear this news!
In 2026 I want to share more about my work in progress. I just completed a manuscript draft, based on quantitative findings from our COVID-19, Precarious Employment, & Mental Health (COPE) study. I'm looking forward to receiving & integrating my co-authors' feedback within the next couple of weeks.
Saint Paul schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for optional online learning.
Iβve seen schools close for snow, for pandemic, for natural disaster. Iβve never seen schools close because of threat from our own government.
It feels so good to get back to my academic writing after constantly being thwarted by other demands. I'm especially enjoying writing a discussion section where everything is coming together to make important contributions despite a turbulent study during the COVID-19 pandemic. #AcademicSky
Today is the 70th anniversary of my grandfatherβs death. I wrote this essay about him years ago, and though it was shared with the world back then, I may not have shared it with my mother. She just read it and said, βVery nice. Youβre a good writer. You should write more.β β€οΈ tnq.ca/losing-ground/
