I’m still in disbelief that Capitol Police and a Republican senator broke the arm of a Marine in full dress uniform because he was voicing opposition to sending troops to Iran. Horrifying.

A war that isn't a war, documented with videos that may or may not be real, funded by elected leaders who are neither for nor against it, is the most dystopian thing that's happened in my lifetime

Close to 650 federal agents remain in Minnesota weeks after border czar announced end of operation There are still more than quadruple the 150 agents Tom Homan said there would be in the state by the end of last week.

They’re still lying to us.

A knock on the window and a glimpse of America’s surveillance future “This is taking a big and very scary step toward a kind of totalitarian checkpoint society,” a privacy advocate warns in a special France 24–Mother Jones report.

“It’s dystopian. It’s like Black Mirror stuff.”

This is Mobile Fortify, an app used by DHS that allows officers to photograph a person’s face and immediately query databases for matches against passport records, visa files, and border entry photos.

On top of the concentration camps, kidnapping, and murders, the news now reports ICE is buying microwave tech to kill the car engines of first amendment legal observers. And Democrats are still not even asking to claw back the 2025 budget increases.

Technocapitalists’ great trick is to make people who hate all this bullshit feel like they’re suffering from the same fogeys-not-coping-with-a-changing-world syndrome every generation succumbs to, rather than, say, just rejecting a rampant evil that seeks to rob us of our individuality & and soul.

A little confused by "instead" here.

It is a nice little insight into how explicitly the project of mass AI adoption involves convincing people that they actually suck at this thing and that it would be better to just turn it over to a chatbot.

This completely misunderstands the research process including the point of doing literature reviews. Claude’s “analysis” treats research as paint by numbers regurgitation of pre-existing work.

Kustov & folks who share these views need to give up their jobs in favor of those who want to research.

I think the responses fall into how I describe why I don't use generative AI: I enjoy the meaning-making process even if it's inefficient.

Reading and thinking allow us to make meaning within our disciplines, but some disciplines (or students within them) have forgotten their theory of knowledge

04.03.2026 11:52 👍 17 🔁 5 💬 1 📌 0

okay, Ill bite.
What do you think the point of reading for and writing a literature review is? The process of reading and writing is crucial for THINKING. Your ideas are shaped by all of this, offloading it to gAI, no matter how "good" you think gAI is at it defeats the purpose entirely.

All I can think about is Jeff Bezos saying that he slashed jobs at the Washington Post — including those of foreign correspondents in the Middle East — based on "the data," and a few weeks later a whole war breaks out in the Middle East that these laid off folks would have covered as true experts.

Again: Not hyperbole, misinterpretation, or a joke that Christian Dominionism is a strain of apocalyptic accelerationism which VERY LITERALLY SEEKS to hasten their vision of the Biblical end of the world, & the people who believe this have VERY CAREFULLY worked their way into the halls of U.S. power
