Shaders in a UI design tool? This is really damn cool. Could become very repetitive when everyone starts using a limited set of preset shaders, but I'm sure they are working on that. #design #shaders #paper

Color picker from Paper app.
This is the color picker Figma should have shipped 4 years ago.
Paper (paper.design) kinda is what Figma's AI integration should have been. Capable MCP server on top of a solid design tool that is based HTML+CSS instead of creating a gap between design and code.
Well today I learned there is a separate scale CSS property that basically does the same as transform: scale(), but does not interfer with other transforms. Pretty nieche, but useful when you need it.
Personally I feel like the quality of content, orβ¦ umh people (?), is better here and on Mastodon. 2 years ago when I last browsed Twitter, it was just a huge engagement farming operation, Iβm pretty sure that development didnβt reverse since then.
Weekend project: completely rebuilt the house build cost breakdown page of our little blog. Now with more data, more visualizations and more fun! hanglage-no8.de/en/costs

Just added a bunch of loose screens of applications Iβve recently designed: telary.studio/indices/ Still need to add some actual case studies for these...
Someone at this pen company went to my website, downloaded a) my logo and b) the font I use (I donβt use both together anywhere), stitched them together and sent me an unasked for sample. Nice try and thanks for then pen.
Iβd really like to just document everything of life in Obsidian, but I absolutely fail with that. Somehow I always fall back to just dumping notes into the Notes app, write articles in loose Google Docs, etc. No idea how to change these habits.
It's long overdue, but our windows are finally in! πͺ hanglage-no8.de/en/notes/win...

I've recently started (again) to publish some more recent design work on Layers (and π© Dribbble). Haven't done this for years, but will try to post something at least weekly. Follow me: layers.to/telarystudio or dribbble.com/ivomynttinen
Granted, I haven't checked out the official iOS Figma libraries for a while, but this just surprised me a bit (event tho super simple) and I'm totally stealing it: using SF Symbols as page icons instead of tacky emojis.
Love a good deal and wanted to have something future-proof for my network equipment so I bought this mint-condition Lehmann 24U-Rack used for 90β¬ π¬
Ubiquiti is launching a rack UPS at a good price, but they decide to power it with a 216Wh battery? Barely enough time to shutdown all rack devices gracefully. 1kwh of LifePo4 would have been marginally more expensive, I guess they need some room for the Pro, Max, and Ultra versions of this thing...
Ok, gonna admit it after using it for a while: liquid glass is an absolute hit for me on iOS. On macOS the design update is terrible (what are these huge paddings, elevated sidebars that have no reason to be elevated?).
Exciting news! Structural work is essentially complete. Now there will be a two week break, then the roofers get started. hanglage-no8.de/en/notes/she...
Back from vacation, first visit on the building site. Impressive progress was made (also everything according to schedule): structural work of basement is done, street level halfway through. Garage now exists. hanglage-no8.de/en/notes/gar...

Liquid glass background blur option in Figma
When Figma liquid glass background blur variant? #wwdc #figma
Looks like legibility and accessibility (contrast ratios) is kinda an afterthought on the iOS/Mac OS redesign. Pretty sure Apple will jack up the blur spreads and opacity over timeβ¦
Posted some recent design work on Layers.
I want to live this platform, but whenever I check back itβs just unbearable slowβ¦ wonder if anyone is even still working on it. layers.to/layers/cmaqr...
I like their technical approach, making the UI extremely versatile by changing tokens. On the other hand it just rarely ever looks good from a visual perspective. The documentation is superior to what Apple does for iOS.
Material Design 3 "Expressive" has been released with updated Docs. m3.material.io
π New Effects: This one flew under the radar I feel. Progressive blur, noise and pattern fills kind fill the gap for me between Figma and what old school design tools like Photoshop or Fireworks could do. My favorite addition after grid. #figma #config
π Figma Sites: Saw this coming. Early days thoughβcanβt really compare with Webflow or Framer yet. I stay away from any no-code editors due to lock-in effects (see price hikes on framer for certain features on existing projects) and limitations in what you can do. #figma #config
π Figma Buzz: Gimmick. I guess they want to have something to compete with Canva. Might be helpful for large social media teams that are art-directed. #figma #config
ποΈ Drawing Mode: I rarely use brushes, but I think this is big for illustrators looking to ditch Adobe. Hope they also fixed some bugs on vector ops and SVG import/export. βText on pathβ finally being native is a winβno more plugin hacks. #figma #config
