Run home from hospital. Filled in a few gaps in my heat map. Up & down the back streets and alley ways.
Cardiologist gave me the π’ light to attempt Devon Coast 2 Coast. Normally he said heβd recommend increasing exercise, but not in my case π

This is the what3words address for a 3 metre square location near South Molton, Devon.
Out of 27 volunteers we had 3 cancel and 20 just not show up, so Iβm getting stuck in with four of em.
If you are near Exmoor / Barnstable and can be here any time today even for a few hours, please please come. Park on the gravel and follow the track opposite the gate.

Harbingers of spring - My 1st Sand Martins of the year this morning at Bowling Green Marsh made me smile. #FootIt
Also 1 Spotted Redshank and 4 Spoonbills. The Sand Martins were too distant & fast for a photo, so hereβs a short Spoonbill video instead.

Treecreeper site
2/2 - As hoped, I heard a couple of Marsh Tits along the way and a Treecreeper. Both new for the year. Plenty of Buzzards, bird song and Primroses.
All good distractions as the kms passed. Always #birding.

Moorhen
Look at this bird. I mean it. This bird is so common to many of us and because of this it gets very little attention. I also find myself often enjoying the rare or otherwise special animals, but let's be honest: how is this not special? Moorhens are spectacularly beautiful.

Sun headline about Β£500k compensation for migrants, discussing human rights, and public outcry over payouts.
Did you see this headline?
Did you feel the requisite anger and rage at asylum seekers that The Sun was asking of you?
Did you maybe blame Starmer because.... um... it was probably his faultπ€·ββοΈ
Would you like to know the reality behind the headline?
Course you would!π
Let's take a look

One Spoonbill, two singing Blackcaps & two singing Chiffchaffs on my short run around Topsham this morning.
Long run tomorrow. Put in a few kms this week to go into tomorrow with tired legs. Akin to back 2 back long run training.

Landscape ecological restoration. It can be done but we need to get a move on. This is Carrifran where the sheep were removed to allow this native woodland to take over.

A long run up into the Haldon foothills this afternoon, following quiet Devon lanes. T-shirt & shorts weather.
Singing Cirl Bunting was my first for 2026 #FootIt. Three Firecrests in the Holly understorey. Kept a look out for Cattle Egrets but none seen.
25km ππ» with 360m elevation.

Four Spoonbills on Bowling Green Marsh Topsham
I continue to track the number of bird species Iβve seen or heard while out on foot from home.
Rather predictably February slowed right up. Two additions, Fieldfare & Spoonbill, take me to 109.
Feb attempts for Dipper, Dartford Warbler & Goshawk failed
