The way things work is this -- you have a human process, it has a wonderful flexibility but it is slow, or tedious, or whatever. You build code and now it is faster and more efficient -- but also more brittle.

A friend of mine is reviving the classic arcade game Maelstrom (which I did the animations for in 1992)! Come help make it a reality β€οΈ www.kickstarter.com/projects/mae...
"Iβve come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies: 1. Anything that is in the world when youβre born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works. 2. Anything thatβs invented between when youβre fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. 3. Anything invented after youβre thirty-five is against the natural order of things.β β Douglas Adams
For me developing a Blu-ray habit has helped. If I send 10 bucks on a film I am going to put my phone down and watch intently. I probably spend 40 bucks a week on Blu-rays but it's been really grounding for me.
A cartoon from the 1950βs thatβs more relevant than ever π
1. A short thread on a Bluesky phenomenon that might be described as "They are a dead-eyed cultist who must be cast out lest the heresy take root!" OP has blocked me for mocking them - I'd usually obscure their name but since they themselves were quote-dunking to demand someone else be blocked ...
Movie poster for The Little Bird (showing a man on a bench looking into the distance with a little bird in the foreground); banner for the "For the Love of Film" shorts festival; audience choice award from the festival.
Our film The Little Bird (directed by @mrhoyle.bsky.social) won an audience choice award at the recent "For the Love of Film" shorts festival! There were so many great films thereβ¦it was a pleasure to meet many of the filmmakers, and an honor to be recognized for our work! β€οΈ
In the TV show Friends, Phoebe sings a song called βSmelly Catβ. I was mashing that up with βI Sing the Body Electricβ from the movie Fame. And just like that an alternate universe is born! π
People are still making beautiful new color cycling pixel art! Check out this amazing piece from Steffest and learn how he made it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyB5...

Oh man, who could forget Phoebeβs rendition of βI Sing the Smelly Cat Electricβ??
Came across the phrase "cognitive DDOS" to describe our present culture.
Understood instantly what it meant.
When your streets are cluttered with cars, how do you make the switch to more human-friendly green spaces? As Vienna discovered, ending free parking is a great start.

The survey itself still says it closes on February 13; is it going to turn off then? Please update it!
@mayorofseattle.bsky.social The renter's survey link you recently posted is broken (404). Please post a corrected version!
I do have a link to the previous form you posted, but it still says the deadline is the 13th.
The trick to making art is to make art and then keep making art and never stop making art and when people tell you to stop you don't stop and then they go away and you keep making art.
@susankitchens.bsky.social I assume MacOS RoadKill was part of the big cats era? π
I think it's nice to have the names for added personality, but it's better if they have an inherent sequence. Honestly, who doesn't love a Saucy Salamander or a Plucky Puffin? π
MacOS also has both a number and a name. This year they finally got around to numbering their OSes by the year (though they do it by the upcoming year, like car manufacturers). And of course the names have no rhyme or reason to them (beyond being places in California now, and big cats a decade ago).
Yes, they do that, but also *adjective animal*: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_...
Indeed. They should do it like Ubuntu with alliterative names that march through the alphabet, like Feisty Fawn, Gutsy Gibbon, Hardy Heron, Intrepid Ibex, etc.
Wikipedia has the whole sequenceβ¦

Conspiracy theory is an efficient engine to immediately quarantine any conceivable evidence against your position, which allows you to rationalize just about anything, which is why you shouldn't fuck with it.
Every time someone tells me that interoperable protocols are too complicated for the average person, I point out that they use email and the web.
The goal needs to be to get atproto to the point that it is just "how the internet works" and the details fade into the background like https & smtp.
Today feels like a good day to spotlight the recent appeal made by Kurihara Toshio, one of the preeminent Japanese reporters on the war memory beat, to journalists covering war today.
Its drawn from his research on the failures of Japan's media establishment in the 1930s:
