There was some good data from Mat Piscatella that basically said the 'whale' model applies to all of gaming now. Most players spend nothing while the upper 10% prop up. The big prediction is more ads in F2P titles to try and get SOMETHING out of the none payers
Semi related re: E33. I do also think there is a kind of 'noble Japanese' trope when discoursing videogames. Whether it be pretending they somehow have a healthy work culture because they have less layoffs or allowing their games excuses for right wing perspectives or questionable depictions
Roblox has more monthly users than Steam or Playstation. Something like 50% of PS5 owners logged onto Fortnite last month. Crazy stuff
Problem is the competition isn't Microsoft or Nintendo its Roblox and Fortnite and a flop will be ruinous. (And the the attach rate for PS5 exclusives is all of 10% max)
I specifically think not launching Saros day and date for PC is a v bad move for that game but what do I know
PlayStation games did poorly on PC due to bad ports, bad timing and no real commitment. Its just going to be muddied messaging when they are going to have to put their live service titles everywhere for them to have a fighting chance
