Poland's opposition PiS party names hardline conservative as prime ministerial candidate

The national-conservative opposition PiS party has named Przemysław Czarnek as its candidate to be prime minister if it wins next year’s parliamentary elections.

Czarnek is known as a hardline conservative who played a prominent role in PiS's campaign against "LGBT ideology" when it was in power.

Gorbachev decided to offer astronaut training for hard currency to Western countries. Helen applied to the British company set up to manage the mission. There were around 5,500 qualified applicants and the final two were selected live on British TV, and given 4 days' notice to go to Zvezdnyi gorodok, then a military facility with 3,500 inhabitants. Helen spent 8 days in space in May 1991 conducting a range of experiments.

💡 Did you know the first Briton in space, Dr Helen Sharman, studied at SSEES? Helen did her MA in Central and South-East European Studies, which allowed her to develop her interest in the East European languages she had encountered in the USSR.

Je häufiger das genau so passiert, desto mehr verfestigt sich der Eindruck, dass alle Warnungen in Richtung derer, die an Aufweichung klarer Grenzen zu den Rechtsextremen denken, immer ihre Berechtigung haben, wir aber viel zu wenig in den Blick genommen haben, welche Fehler der Journalismus macht.

Bemerkenswert ist es schon, dass führende Mitglieder einer rechtsextremen Partei geradezu im Wochentakt die Möglichkeit erhalten, ihre vermeintliche Harmlosigkeit in Podcasts führender Journalist:innen zu beweisen. & das gipfelt dann noch in einer Selbstdarstellung der Einladenden, die schockiert.

This changes the mechanisms of quality assurance in academic staff selection as evaluating academic achievements before granting tenure requires the participation of new actors and committees, such as tenure committees/boards and external reviewers, and the definition of tenure criteria. Using the ‘veto player’ approach that is widely used in political science, we reconstruct the decision-making process of final tenure evaluations at 84 German universities. Our analysis assesses the extent to which different actor constellations and procedures for setting tenure criteria contribute to a greater quality in tenure track appointment procedures.
