READING THE GREEN BOOK
I posted this last Spring - almost to the day! - and have given it a bit of a spring clean for this year.
The world... The world...
The catkins, the buds, the sweet chatter of the hedge-birds.

I was going to post this yesterday, but...
This is for all those who've navigated the nervous system territories of our times and situation, beholding atrocity from the padded horrors of modernity. And to those who put their bodies and lives on the line when nothing else seems possible or effective
If you're a creative soul looking to unfold further, deeper, higher, in more authentic colours... this is an established year-course run by my love, Rozi Hilton. There are just two places left for this year's April start.
The group meets in Somerset UK

I have to share this every so often. Still true.
It was one of the first pieces for MOLOK, from Feral Angels Press - 🔗 feralangels.com/books/poetry...
With some redaction to see if it gets a better reach 🤷♂️
THE FERAL ANGELS IMBOLC SALE is on
All printed editions of my work, and all the print issues of Clarion, are half-price.

Imbolc. The glimmering of light; a glimpse in the dark of something to sustain us through Winter, for all that it’s far from over. The kindling in the heart that keeps us from despair – or wanhope, as the word once was, the waned emptiness of hope.
Hang in there.
I’ve found it hard to write good poetry these last few years...
It’s my birthday today. I’m 9,451 years old! Roughly.
Together – and fundamentally inseparable – we can do this!
Resist atomisation and over-simplification of the cosmos.
Also, let’s dance today,
while we can.
I'm currently doing some research into the notion of spirits being devoured, and was reminded of this one today, from John Trudell. Protect your spirit, yes, I say, while staying open to the wonder of being alive.

It's been a while since I posted a work-in-progress.
This one is from this morning when I'm drinking Greek coffee and trying to find language in a time when I've not got much of a hold on words. It needs some tinkering.
Sending love and solidarity to all of you making rafts.
FERAL ANGELS’ POETRY CAFÉ
This Sunday
Online, sliding scale, all welcome
A space for writing, reading and exploring poetry
Link to book a place tomhirons.com/events/
This is just a quick note to tell you that the Feral Angels’ Poetry Café is convening again not once but TWICE this week (once in person, in Buckfastleigh, on Wednesday, and one online, on Sunday 25th) - and you'd be very welcome if you'd like to come along.

Early yesterday morning, I was reading poems from 'Alive Together: New and Selected Works' by Lisel Mueller. There are some astonishing poems in there and I was glad to have opened it again. This one - from The Private Life (1976) - struck me as needing sharing again here, fifty years later.
ICE killed a woman today. You probably already knew that. Did you know, though, that she was a poet?
HEADS UP, ACUPUNKS!
I just took a tonne of Chinese Medicine books to Oxfam on Totnes High Street. If you're an acupuncture student – or a practicing acupuncturist – you could pick up some serious bargains there over the next days and weeks...

BATHING IN THE STREAM IN WINTER
Here's a new piece as we swing on the hinges of the year. I recorded this one the last time I was out at my favourite place on Dartmoor. I wish you a moment or two of cold-water sanity as we gird ourselves for 2026 and its unknown face.
TONIGHT!
The poetry café on the 7th December was cancelled as the flu took me down. I'm back on my feet, so I rescheduled it for today. Perhaps it's a good time to dive into poetics and forget the middle world for a while...
All welcome - tomhirons.com/events/feral...
Sliding scale, as ever.
Do you have a poet in your life?
You could be eligible for compensation...
Not true, sadly.
But, you might think about buying them a mentoring session with me if you're lost for what to get them.

Escalate now!
except from A Dream of Solstice by Seamus Heaney
#WinterSolstice2021 #WinterSolstice
I send this each solstice - there's so much pressure to be doing ‘sacred’ things, and for many of us, that’s just not possible in the way we often think of it. Lives of service don’t have a lot of room for that kind of thing. So, this is just to say: You’re seen.
With love in the dark

The poetry café on the 7th December was cancelled as the flu took me down. I'm back on my feet, just about, so I've rescheduled it for Monday 29th December. I'd love to see you there in the weird liminal time.

Wishing you and yours grace and unexpected good news here at the solstice. With special affection for all the troubadours who've weathered a thousand years in the underworld.
And particular thoughts for those for whom this solstice is another dark day in a seemingly unending trudge of dark days.
