The first one was intended to be a gaiden for the FF series. SOM was originally referred to as FFA II in nintendo power magazine. The remake removed any FF references which is probably another reason I didn’t like the remake. I’m a purist with certain things lol.

Yes SOM is quite epic. If you never played FFA I’d recommend it. It’s really good. There is also the GBA remake but I like the original better myself.

I didn’t like trials. I played it 100 years ago when you had to patch the seiken densetsu 3 rom from Japanese. I thought the controls were a lot more slowed down and clunky. I bought collection of mana to play it to see if they improved it or if it was a straight port. It was just a port….lol
