Drilling Down to the Details in Cancer Research Researchers are analyzing every atom, chemical bond, and electrical charge inside a key enzyme that belongs to a metabolic pathway that cancer cells overuse to reproduce.

There actually is established cancer research at the Department of Energy. This might seem out of scope, but it is related to links between radiation exposure and increased cancer risk. Some labs have (or had) robust genetics research programs for similar reasons.
