Are we talking in libraryland about the amount of garbage we now get when we put in any sort of reasonable search into our common (Proquest/EBSCO) interfaces?
In terms of relevant results for the exact same search, Google Scholar is far outpacing the databases we pay $$$$$ for in EVERY instance.π

I'm thrilllled this research is finally out there! Library hiring prob isn't the worst out there, but as a field we have a long way to go when it comes to being inclusive of neurodivergent job candidates.
TY Lead Pipe for being such a wonderful group to publish my first peer-reviewed article with!

We've done almost this, but we didn't specify ethnically minoritized authors - we just asked folks to tell us important books representing their identities. We're a PWI so a ton of the responses were by white authors, but I'd be happy to email you our list for you to work thru! DM me your address?

A Company Reminder for Everyone to Talk Nicely About the Giant Plagiarism Machine

"It just really comes as a shock that such accomplished intellectuals, whoβve spent their entire careers pushing the upper bounds of human achievement, could be judgy about a machine that runs the entirety of human imagination through a shredder and glues together what comes out."

As a grad of a program that did include a required management class, I can say with 100% certainty that the employer-led program seems more useful. And am I really going to have retained anything from LIS 538 now, 10 years later, going into my first semi-formal leadership position? Not happening.

How to crush a generation and tell them they're winning

I'm so enjoying how UK librarians are critically approaching libraries at #CALC2025. Happy coincidence of today - I'd ordered an awesome-sounding book for a student's honors thesis a couple months ago, only to discover I'd be hearing from its speaker @sachacoward.bsky.social this morning!

Curtailing peopleβs ability to read widely and carefully, to locate, assess, and compare different sources for themselves, and to write in their own voice about what they find and what it means, is arguably more effective than censorship. It is also one of the most obvious effects of generative AI.

Research librarian confessions: of the 6 research consults I've had this week, my first step for 5 of them has been Google Scholar.
And it's worked way better than the subscription databases.

Also having major brain fog - like I know I spent time with friends at ACRL in 2019, I know I enjoyed myself, but trying to remember who I saw and who's even in libraries anymore is proving mega challenging.

I'm going to #ACRL2025, my first national conference pre-pandemic, and it feels like starting all over again. How does one conference?
(Also, please tell me if you'll be there, because there's nothing like a good conference meetup to make librarianship feel like the smallest of small worlds.)

I wish there was a way to get involved with my local Indivisible without having to face the barrage of memes they post on a near-constant basis. I don't need to be enraged further, I want to know how to engage.
