I dont think thats a risk with Steam, though they do show your full name.
For us it wasn't really worth it so we just used personal information. However this is definitely risky and should really only be done if there is a lot of trust and transparency in the team.

A quick cheat could be to just add a white(or other high contrast) outline around the letters, thats what we did with Sacrifice For Sale's Logo to ensue it looks good and readable in all environments.

Well generally we all just sit there for accountability while we get work done.
Occasionally we talk about what we are currently working on, ask for advice, share our experiences or just do general socialising.
Its basically the water-cooler of the server in many ways.
No pressure of course.

You know it is only now that the irony of this occurs to me.
Sacrifice For Sale is currently the only item not on Sale during the Be a Hero event.
You cant make this stuff up.
Which again, that is insane that we are in the same sale as @twoandahalfstudios.com 's A Date with Death.
Genuinely insane to me, that our game shows up anywhere near the same section.
#GameDev ing can be a roller-coaster sometimes.
So amazingly we somehow got into the Be a Hero Sale! =D
