What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.

Seven years ago today I was at a courthouse in a blizzard getting my name and gender changed and I can't believe I've been on this phase of the journey for so long. It's bittersweet to hold that joy while also seeing so many local and federal lawmakers trying to take that joy away from my community.
I watched the first episode of Starfleet Academy and loved seeing Sassy AI Doctor again, and it made me nostalgic so I've been watching Voyager in the background while working today and I forgot how much of an absolute banger the Voyager theme song is. Almost as good as DS9s triumphant horns
