My parents (one an atheist, the other probably more a deist, but guilty) brought our family to church until I, the youngest, was 12. Without the home life backing up the religion, it just seemed like an annoying social event, with the bonus that I did get all those cultural connections.

Not at this moment in time, but as the subsidies to clean energy are no longer needed, start taxing it to directly pay for the successful decommissioning/maintenance of legacy fossil fuels.
I agree, it was fascinating. One idea that came to mind: given that the success of clean energy is tied to the successful retirement of fossil energy, I'm wondering if, politically, there might be some way to tie the financing of shutdown to profits of clean energy.
