| RESTORING WATER SECURITY AT AL-RASTAN DAM |

Built in 1958, Syria’s 3rd-largest dam supports 72,000 ha and 80,000 families. In 2024, HEKS/EPER, in coordination with the Directorate of Water Resources, rehabilitated the dam, restoring safety, water security, and climate resilience.

With support from HEKS/EPER, he rebuilt his livelihood and continued providing for his family. His story is a powerful reminder that true strength lies in perseverance, not physical ability.

During the Kosovo War, many Roma lost everything: their homes, their security, and their prospects. To this day, many of them live marginalized from society and in precarious housing conditions without water or electricity.

The Business Info Hub in Lebane, managed by Roma Entrepreneurship Development Initiative and supported by HEKS/EPER, serves as a vital bridge, connecting dedicated individuals with local businesses.

As traditional development cooperation faces increasing pressure, new models are urgently needed.

It highlighted gaps between legal recognition and the actual implementation of peasants’ rights and called for inclusive governance that centres rural and Indigenous voices, especially those of women.

In response to the Working Group’s call for input, HEKS/EPER Cambodia submitted a country report with concrete recommendations.

The issues raised in the report are also highly relevant at the national level. Among the countries that experienced one of the sharpest rises in land concentration is Cambodia, driven by economic and land concessions covering 2 million hectares, or 53% of its arable land in just 12 years.
