Any time I see a shared social media post or meme that uses the phrase “sent shockwaves through” whatever or wherever, I know it’s bullshit. This is bullshit.

President Eisenhower after the Soviets crushed the short-lived Hungarian revolution in 1956: “…I must make one thing clear: the United States doesn't now and never has advocated open rebellion by an undefended populace against force over which they could not possibly prevail…”

Also in 1956 when U.S.-funded Radio Free Europe hinted to Hungarian freedom-fighters that America would swoop in and save them from the Soviets, encouraging their hopeless revolt. Nope: The Soviets brutally crushed that effort in a couple days with the U.S. remaining on the sidelines.

I worked for smallish newspapers for 40-plus years, the final 34 as editor of an alt.weekly. The last 20 years of my career I had to work a second job to make ends meet (and I’m still working part-time in retirement). If I’m an elite, we’re in big trouble.

Please clean up the punctuation in this post. I agree with the sentiment but it took me a while to grok that you weren’t grouping “liberals” with fuhrer Trump.

The legal system in this country is already fundamentally monetized. If you have the money to hire the best lawyer, your odds of winning a civil or criminal case are better. Notwithstanding that basic but perhaps unavoidable flaw in the system, this provision is terrible.
