I am deeply saddened to hear about the tragic murder of a young man on Thessaly Road on 2nd March 2026. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone impacted at this devastating time. This death marks another young life taken far too soon as a result of unacceptable violence. A homicide investigation has now been launched and I remain in contact with the police to monitor developments. Anyone with any information, please contact police on 101, quoting CAD165/2MAR, or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

20 February 2026 Dear Chancellor, I am writing to raise my concern over the current student loan system, particularly the impact of Plan 2 student loans on young graduates. I have received correspondence from a significant number of recent graduates who are being detrimentally affected by the repayment terms attached to these loans. Graduates are already facing increased financial pressure due to the cost-of-living crisis. Many feel as though they are unable to save for a future including buying a home or having children. For those on Plan 2 student loans, their financial pressure is exacerbated by a system under which loan balances continue to grow despite consistent monthly repayments, often failing to keep pace with interest accrual. Particularly concerning is the Governmentβs decision to freeze the Plan 2 repayment threshold for three years from April 2026, fixing it at Β£29,385. The National Union of Students has warned that this freeze risks leaving new graduates struggling to cover essential costs such as food, rent and bills. Many constituents also raised the concern that this is a retrospective change to the terms signed up to when taking out the loan. Additionally of concern is the setting of interest rates with RPI, a measure the ONS has deemed as not fit for purpose. Under the system many young people in higher education have seen their loans balloon even before entering the workforce, and this continues to climb whilst making monthly repayments when in employment. Many experts including Nick Hillman, the architect of the student loan system, have called for switching to the standard CPI as is used for other Government policies. Higher education remains one of the most powerful tools for improving a young personβs future prospects, and it is vital that we support those who pursue it. At present, however, many graduates feel let down by a system that they perceive as burdensome and financially punitive. To address these concerns, I urge you to coβ¦
I have written to the Chancellor to raise my concern on the current student loan system & I encourage the Govt to restore the repayment threshold so it rises in line with inflation.
It is not right that many graduates face soaring loan repayments despite meeting their consistent monthly repayments.
For too long too many children havenβt had the support they need to succeed.
That must change.
Labour will transform our schools system so every child can achieve and thrive.

I was shocked and worried to learn of the fire on Battersea Park Road that broke out on Sunday, and many residents have written to me to express their concerns. Eight fire engines and around sixty firefighters were called to tackle a blaze that broke out on Sunday afternoon. The fire affected a three-story mixed-use building, which included shops on the ground floor and two flats on the floors above. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, and the fire was brought under control by 4pm on Sunday evening. The residents of the impacted flats have been advised by Wandsworth Council to contact their private landlords to make alternative housing arrangements. I know that many Battersea constituents were also concerned by road closures and the temporary traffic diversions put in place following the fire. I am pleased that the road and footpath has reopened and traffic is flowing normally. If you have any questions or concerns about the fire, please contact the London Fire Brigade. I am in regular contact with Wandsworth Council and the Police and will report any developments as they occur. Thank you to the London Fire Brigade for officersβ service.
Like many of you, I was very concerned to hear about the fire that broke out on Battersea Park Road yesterday.

Many constituents have contacted me regarding the recent closure of the Albert Bridge to traffic. Following a safety inspection, Transport for London and Kensington & Chelsea Council closed the bridge to traffic as a precautionary measure. They have determined that there is no immediate danger to the public but have closed the road to avoid the risk of extra weight that could prolong repairs. Battersea residents are rightly concerned about the effect this closure is having on their journeys and the significant strain this will put on the other routes across the river. I completely understand the frustration of my constituents who use the bridge on a daily basis to make essential journeys to work, school and other appointments. I have raised these concerns with Wandsworth Council and asked them to keep Battersea residents updated on the situation. I have also written to Transport for London to press for more information on the results of the exploratory work on the bridgeβs condition as well as a timeline for getting the bridge back to full working capacity. I remain in touch with officials and will report any developments as they occur.
I share my constituents' frustration and worry at the Albert Bridge's recent closure to traffic, and have written to TfL for clarity on the timeline for repairs.
I will continue to monitor developments closely and report back to constituents.

βCreating additional resources in mainstream education should be the general default position for SEND support. "Thatβs why I am delighted that the Government will provide new inclusion bases in all secondary schools so that children with SEND can access specialist support while remaining in mainstream education. βMy own experience shows that, with the right support in mainstream schools, most children will receieve the right academic education for them, socialise with peers of all backgrounds and go onto thrive.β
The Govt's decision to put inclusion bases in every secondary school is a vital next step in turning the SEND system around, ensuring that children will get the SEND support they need alongside the right educational environment for them.
