'Just cap the filesize' isn't a button you can just press. It depends on the image content itself, processing time, resolution, ect, ect which Bsky already seem to skimp on. GIFs are literally 1 button but they haven't enabled those yet either.

Transparency means using something other than JPEG, which then opens a can of worms about compatibility and filesize yada yada...

Bsky has started requiring age verification as per UK law tomorrow. Both verification methods failed for me and now the site refuses to load at all, with some sites starting to block access to the UK out of fear from fines by OfCom.

I already have compressonator installed locally due to the problem I found. Maybe I can run a few tests and see if it's reproducible outside of Resonite... I just wish Compressonator wasn't such a pain to use

The texture issue is that BC7, using twice the VRAM, looks worse than BC1 because the quality level is misconfigured. Found it while working with Drayce on the Inadra, causing him to use RGBA32 instead.

I've mentioned it on github recently, but the entire Resonite texture and image pipeline is misconfigured. Using massively more time and resources for minimal gains, or not spending slightly longer for major improvements.

My friend actually found out they can make 20% smaller PNGs by storing them uncompressed and using brotli content encoding to transfer them over the network instead.
Says a lot about how far behind some of our most used formats are.
