A guitarist performing classic 90's Autechre electronic music. I'm hearing not just a cover but something more and different from the original track. Delightful and unexpected. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe-9...

Iโ€™m thrilled to announce the release of #Simbrain 4, which I have been working on for over 10 years! For the last five of those years I have met almost every weeknight with Yulin Li and we have pair-programmed our way through the entire app, adding hundreds of new features.

Three ecological psychologists on the right and wrong ways to use the fieldโ€™s principles in neuroscience Matthieu de Wit, Luis H. @braininspired.bsky.social talks to @dewitmm.bsky.social, Luis Favela and @diovicen.bsky.social about the trend of neuroscientists importing concepts from ecological psychology, how an organismโ€™s interactions with its environment explains perception and action.

Really enjoyed this discussion on Brain Inspired. We talk about how EP is currently showing up in the mainstream, and how it might be done better. We also talk about neuro developments within the ecological community itself. Thanks for leading us through it, Paul @braininspired.bsky.social!

Do neuroscientists know what "affordance" actually means?

(it seems perhaps not)

Luis Favela, @dewitmm.bsky.social, and yours truly talked to @braininspired.bsky.social about ecological neuroscience. Among other things, we tried to comment on how to make "affordances" and "ecological information" helpful for neuroscientists. Check it out!

You could also look into education of intention, for example Jacobs, D. M., & Michaels, C. F. (2007). Direct Learning. Ecological Psychology, 19(4), 321โ€“349

Thanks! The cue concept is rejected in the ecological theoretical framework. For learning from an ecological perspective (discovering new affordances), look up concepts like attunement, education of attention, calibration. Sensorimotor contingencies would provide a different but related angle.

Key tenet in neuroscience is that cytoarchitectonic boundaries correspond to functional ones.

If you want to implement an AI tutor, you need to study itโ€™s performance in naturalistic settings with the kinds of context windows that student learners will provide. You canโ€™t begin with a well formulated question about a single topic.

Students donโ€™t know how to formulate questions well at first.

In the latest episode of @braininspired.bsky.social, Vincente Raja suggests that neuroscientists should pay more attention to the principles of Gibsonian ecological psychology, such as affordances, ecological information and resonance.

HOME | SPAN The Society for Philosophy and Neuroscience (SPAN) is a new philosophical and scientific society dedicated to providing a forum for collaborations between philosophers and neuroscientists. The Society for Philosophy and Neuroscience seeks to foster, build, and maintain strong interdisciplinary relationships in the joint endeavor to understand the mind and brain.

I am super excited to be giving my talk "Characterizing neural function in ecological neuroscience" at the inaugural Society for Philosophy and Neuroscience conference @socphilneuro.bsky.social in St. Louis in May! Check out the incredible line-up of speakers and symposia: www.philandneuro.com
